I've just finished reading Careless People, and there's nothing about this story that surprises me. That anyone is still willing to use a Meta product at this point is beyond me. #booksky

Book cover for Careless People: a cautionary tale of power, greed, and lost idealism, a memoir, by Sarah Wynn-Williams. Featuring an image of a shark fin in a blue rounded square evoking the Facebook app icon.

Evil design choices: Gmail buries the AI opt-out under what seems like a section header but is really a hidden button to a sub-menu. Time to opt out of Gmail for good.

Screenshot from a mobile device of Gmail per-account settings with a hand-drawn red circle around the words "Google Workspace smart features," which appear with no toggle and no descriptor text, making it seem like a section header, when in fact it is a button to a sub-menu where AI features are enabled by default for Gmail AND other products.
