Improved meteorological data helps monitor floods and wildfires. In 2025, Copernicus Emergency collected real-time data from about 26 900 stations and 41 providers. An improved database configuration now enhances products of the EU Flood Awareness System and EU Forest Fire Information System.

This summer, the EU's Copernicus Emergency Rapid Mapping was activated 46 times to analyse the impact of disasters, from wildfires to floods. Wildfires alone accounted for 39 activations. Work also continued on four Risk and Recovery Mapping activations, helping authorities prepare and recover.

On #WorldMaritimeDay, we remember why protecting the ocean matters. When the MT Terra Nova capsized in Manila Bay in 2024, the EU's Copernicus Emergency was activated on the same day. Over the following hours, satellite images were turned into maps tracking the oil spill as it moved across the bay.

After Cyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka in November 2025, the EU supported local authorities during the recovery phase. Copernicus Emergency measured three years of ground movement in Matale and Kandy to spot areas at risk of landslides, helping authorities prioritise field checks.

Wildfire activity in Europe places sustained pressure on emergency management. In the EU, wildfires burnt almost 500 000 hectares in July and August. Copernicus Emergency monitors the areas affected, helping authorities act and assess damage. Each circle = a burnt area of 1 000 hectares or more.
