Law firms: Why do you have AI receptionists? I've had to deal with them across multiple firms recently. They universally suck. Nobody who minds the "press 1 to talk to John Smith" computer would find the AI receptionist any better. Just hire a human, or use normal voice mail.

I think I gave myself a bit less than two hours at LAX last time I was there (late May, returning to ORD), but I didn’t have a checked bag and I was alone I do cut it close at MKE but I know what I can get away with there, it is usually 10 minutes from curb to gate (I give myself more than that)

A decade ago it was "how are we going to explain gay marriage to our kids" and my spouse brought our then-preschooler to the courthouse the day it became legal in Wisconsin and when I asked him what he did at the courthouse, he said "I saw friends get married" Yes that was super hard

I made baklava for work. I have never made baklava before. I think it came out decently. Tastes good. I did have to cut some of the diamonds into triangles because they were too big, and everything is uneven. Oh well.

The ones that make it into my feed are "is this dress too white to wear to a wedding?" and it's a dress like this and there are people who say yes it is

On the track I was on I had to take programming. My middle school had keyboarding as part of the computer "specials" class but if you could do I think 30 WPM with accuracy got exempted from that unit (my dad was an early adopter of home computers and I taught myself to type in maybe second grade).

Some of the responses to the original post talk about typing and computers as being business courses. I know there was a typing course offered but I don't know where that ended up; computers was its own thing. I don't think schools offer keyboarding anymore. Everyone learns to type as kids now.

I know he found it useful. My son's school does allow early release for work for seniors if they're otherwise on track to graduate on time and in good standing. He's thinking about taking advantage of that program. Of course he literally started his first job yesterday so we'll see.

I'm GenX and I went to a big high school (2000 then, 5000 now) and there was a business track--I don't remember specifics but a friend was in it, and he took business, entrepreneurship, and accounting classes, then got out early to work at Radio Shack. (He went to college and is now in medical HR.)

The solo/small firm conference is always at Kalahari. It's centrally located, and I think it is timed for when the WEAC convention used to cancel school. I get it, I begrudgingly accept it, I will be there for 2 nights, without a car (taking Amtrak).

The only adult space I can locate on the website is a swim-up bar. I have occasionally paid the steakhouse bar tax (though I always get fish) to have some quiet. I don't know whether kids are actually banned from the bar but there usually aren't any there.

I travel a few times a year for work and I only rarely pair it with a family trip. I have to go to a waterpark resort next month, and I do not like doing that for business. There are so many screaming kids (even on random Wednesdays during the school year) and the whole place smells like chlorine.
