Yes, you can make comparisons to where retail is floundering. Garek is a far better character than the current batch because he is not the center of the world, far from it, and he doesn't try to be. Sylvanas is a side character because this is not her story. Lessons to learn.

Finished Forsaken Kingdom, no spoilers ahead. The strongest Warcraft experience in ages and feels authentic to WC3, right down to some very goofy Easter eggs and humor. Simple arcs done well and concisely, characters that make sense, elevating to a larger than life finale.

Multi-racial protagonist with famous parents with unique power over multiple cosmic forces that is best friends with everyone on both sides and every notable character are part of his extended family of mentors that are all dedicated to his success as the chosen one. He is back.

Med'an, the laughable self insert-tier character of the early 2010s that was an embarrassment swept under the rug by writers that knew he could never be put in-game.

Arator, the same thing as Med'an but now free to cannibalize the in-game story, largely because he is a Windrunner (Azeroth was promised to their family 3,000 years ago).

Posted this on the other site, the double standards and favoritism have made the themes and intended morals of the story incomprehensible. Knowing who some of the writers are, they not consider any perspectives beyond protecting their favorite elf and human characters. Everything else is icky.

You have to highlight that the people who worked on ZA in 12.0 do not seem to have returned for 12.1, and indeed, don't even seem aware of what the story a single patch later was. CDev appears comfortable letting quest designers do whatever they want before jerking them towards the 'real' story.

The writing team's MO since BfA has been to just shut themselves off from criticism, and not coincidentally, you see large-scale response to feedback on the story stop happening around then. The same basic mistakes, plot holes, and myopic writing repeat from the same people.

I love that we get this dialogue after a mandatory quest introducing the Arcantina. Nobody cares, Lor'themar. It's canon that every remotely noteworthy character goes to the exact same magical tavern and just talks about how nice and peaceful things are now. Nobody cares.

This is another one of those instances where the point that's trying to be made is so nonsensical that they might as well cut the dialogue and just have an author's note telling you the Light isn't always good, it requires about the same suspension of disbelief to take seriously.

This is the single largest cause of the evisceration of Warcraft's identity in the 2020s. Everything comes back to it. It has been 7 and a half years since this moment and we're still getting new content mourning it. Blizzard has internalized this fictional event as real and the root of all evil.

I don't like the source of the quote, but it's entirely in line with what has been directly said or suggested. Lore speculation based on stuff Danuser seeded seems increasingly futile to me when it becomes more and more clear that Metzen didn't care for it.
