When I wrote porn I wanted to write real characters with motivations that weren't my own, so I looked for other voices. This now consists of looking for indigenous voices in fiction, mainly. It is fascinating how weird Good and Evil seem as concepts from voices outside the Abrahamic religions.

The first time I can remember a book actively changing me, was reading A Bridge Too Far - a book about the battle of Arnhem in WW2. I was 7, had run out of Biggles books and comics so I pinched one of Dad's. It was the moment I realised the world might be a dark place and not at all heroic

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward
