It's not a monolith, and there may be times when I disagree with them, but ultimately it's a complex issue that I feel like you swept away with your 'biologic' statement. It's so much more complex than that, and I don't know why you chose that as your metric. 111
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025And that's my issue. Because if it's just biological to you, not only do you disinherit a lot of Native people, even in contrast to their own enrollment, and then open up a can of worms with percentages of what make a person biologist or no. It's gross and imo, just not ok. 111
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025And if that's not what you meant, and you threw 'biologic' out as a way of simplifying the other person's identity and invalidating their points of view, then that's not ok, and you owe it to your community to do better and choose your words better. 111
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 07/09/2025Look fam. Unless you're talking about an actual disease or birds or something, just erase the word 'biologic' if you're talking about any person's identifier. Seriously. It's never anything good when someone does that. 121

If that's your metric for measuring who is Native, please unfollow me, because that takes what has been a beautiful experience to me and makes it something cheap and racist, and I'm not about bringing those bad jubies into my circle. 111
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025And by that definition, anyone could rule MY Indigeny out by saying I'm only (1/12? Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025Okay, so she doesn't. Again, not my point. If she did and the tribe called her Native, would you invalidate her because she's 'biologically' white? That's just straight up racist. YOU chose biologic as your metric. Not me. That was the word you used. 211
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025See that doesn't sit right with me. That's where I have the issue. If she participates in the culture and the tribe felt like it could admit her via membership just for her contribution, she'd be Native to me. Blood would not be a factor. 211
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025That depends on the tribe, actually. Some tribes use a blood measurement, some don't. There are some tribes that only have a requirement of relation, you can be adopted and get membership. Some don't. Check with your families' tribal office! 011
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025But if they're from a mixed family, you don't get to decide if they're Native or not. You don't get to just boil it down to a percentage. That's what insults me. Tribes and community decide what makes a person Native. Not if you're 'biological' or not. 111
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025No, they don't. That's exactly my point. Being Native is about a fukton more than just 'biological'. It's about tribal requirements, community involvement, and environment. What is insulting is just to put it down to 'biologics'. If a person self IDs as white, that's one thing. 211
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025Again, what's the biological marker there? Are they white when they're more than half? 1/4? Or is it only if they look white? Because by your definition my kid would be Native because I am. But she's blond haired and blue eyes because my husband is a Scot. Is she white or Native? My point is this: 211
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025When do you consider a person to be 'biologically' Native? 1/12? 1/16? 1/4? 1/2? 1/32? This is why we don't use blood quantum amongst ourselves. It's like a dog pedigree. And it's fuking gross. 111
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025There are plenty of adopted people who are considered Native by their tribe even though they're adopted. They even have tribal status. But for the record, my maternal grandmother is 100% Pima. But my mom was adopted by a white family. So what's the threshold there? 211
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025That almost makes it worse, because that means someone's Native identity is contingent on whether you like them or not. Would you invalidate me if you didn't like me? That's frankly disturbing. And it goes against everything my community has taught me. 211
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025Because its my maternal grandmother. But my mom was adopted and raised by white people. Frankly if you're saying it's only biological I'm a little insulted-I've been taught for years it's more than that. 211
Reposted by @estrogenie.bsky.socialResistDoc @aquatixwitch.bsky.social · 06/09/2025Wait. Now I'm confused.
