Since today was another Horrible News Day, I’d like to share with you something better. This is a story on Royal Road I just started reading that is incredibly well executed. It’s called Baron And Zombie, and it’s a classic old school spy thriller but with cults and weird magic, and yeah. Read it.

Finished up The Money Pit's new cover for the web serial release. It'll go up for reading sometime this year. I had a good time pushing the rendering on this, and I love every chance I get to include a guilloche security pattern. #illustration #art #webserial #fiction

So it turns out that Royal Road's image size for cover art is so small you have to treat it almost like logo design. Less noise, fewer characters, immediately readable silhouettes. It's a lot harder than it sounds. That said, I've got a strong start going on the replacement.

My heart is full, I had such an amazing time at the gallery! There's still one more day to buy some original paintings, but I'll be heading home tomorrow to collapse in my bed and pet my cats. I'm leaving Toronto with 11 out of 15 paintings sold and headed for loving homes! Info in the alt text!

Clip studio paint's home page using a gen slop image to advertise their new contest. The picture has that overly air-brushed, glassy-eyed smile typical of generated images.

The sketch of the image has blurred lines, weird sharpening, and line duplication that artists don't tend to do during this portion of the process.

The half painted hand has eight fingers, and the gen slop machine can't tell the difference between the end of the paint brush they're holding, and the fingers above, so it applies the same highlight to several of them. The fingers themselves are ghosting over the image as they duplicate themselves to hold the brush. This is super obvious slop!

After two months of drought I'm finally writing again. Finishing the full draft of The Money Pit took five and a half years, and at the end of it I felt immense pride at the accomplishment. I also felt like I had burnt the ability to write out of myself. Happy to say I've still go it.

I'm quite late on this, but the world is crazy, so my apologies. I just learned that Laralyn McWilliams passed away back in 2024. They had an incredible career and I used to follow them on Twitter. Terribly sorry to learn they're gone.

Laralyn McWilliams was a game designer. The photo shows them speaking at a conference. She has short cut gray hair, glasses, and the hint of a smile.

So, the other day I finished the complete draft of a novel I've been writing. It took me five years and five months but I did it. It stars this lady, Penny Issagloria, and it's set in a world where money is magic, and debt is a curse.

Something I've come to appreciate about Bsky, is that if I hit refresh, I don't automatically get an entirely new pile of posts from nowhere. If nothing new has gone up, then I get the same pic that was there previously. That's incredibly liberating.

Stumbled on an old treasure map I was working on for Thing 12 Games. I really need to find the original working file...

Swordtember, Day 26: Candy. Today's prompt was supposed to be Harpy, but I already did a bird design with Owl, so someone who had asked for a. Candy sword got their wish.

A gummie, candy sword. The blade looks like a cocktail skewer, the handle is made of sugar-crusted gumdrops, and the scabbard is made from a licorice whip.

This sword challenge has been extremely good for me. I haven't drawn this regularly since I had a day job that I de-stressed at by drawing post-it-note doodles.
