Here’s a snapshot of our education work over the last year. From our flagship projects the Foyle Young Poets Award & Young Poets Network, to project-based work on the environment, wellbeing, creative careers, spoken word, oracy, teacher CPD and more, 2024 was full of inspiring poetry interactions.
Four photos in a grid: top left, three children and poet Valerie Bloom around a poem displayed at the base of a Christmas tree; top right, a group of young people stand in a line in the British Library, holding a green sign that says 'Foyle Young Poets'; bottom left, poet Oliver Lomax stands in a classroom in front of a slide showing Sylvia Plath and delivers a workshop to students; bottom right, poet Jonah Corren sits on a multicoloured parachute and talks to two children who hold clipboards. In the centre of the grid, a blue circle with an orange border, containing text that reads: Our Education Work in 2024, and the logo of The Poetry Society in white.A blue background with white text that reads: Our talent development for poets included: workshops, online & in person; performances, online & in person; publication in print & online ; internships; facilitation training & shadowing; skills-based career-focussed sessions; commissions; mentoring & feedback. A drawing of a person lying down using a typewriter at the bottom of the image.White text on a blue background, with an orange quotation mark top left Text reads: Beyond the validation of having your work read and approved of, the Foyle Young Poets Award lets you meet other
writers. The experience of meeting peers who are equally passionate
about writing is so valuable. It reassured me that people my age take poetry seriously, and gave me sustained friendships and lasting memories. – A Foyle Young Poet. A drawing of a girl riding a unicycle and reading a book on the right of the image.

“We need the slower and more lasting stimulus of solitary reading as a relief from the pressure on eye, ear and nerves of the torrent of information and entertainment pouring from ever-open electronic jaws. It could end by stupefying us.” ― Margaret Storm Jameson
