In return for the privileges of the charter, Maldon was directed to provide a ship & crew for the king’s defence. It was on a site, close to the town centre opposite the present day Harlow Leisure Zone. Due lack of demand owing to high fares & many complaints about noise it closed within two years. 000

Started the 90 mile trip in Dunkirk, France but due to changing winds the balloon was blown as far north as Clacton. 000

There was a procession from the town hall which included various bands, cyclists in fancy dress, mounted police and 12 carriages of councillors and officials. 110

The weed was sucked in through an inlet pipe which carried 20 million gallons of water an hour to the stations two reactors. 000
