One day I'll be sitting on the throne of DOS music. To me PC music implies Windows and I want one day to pass the PC music royalty and be DOS music royalty because when that happens I'll have proven you don't need much to have the power of fun with technology.

I've never gotten completely adept enough to show I've done it this way but I've always been bitten by a desire to reduce the capability of the technology for music around me. What seems really high tech is a 12 voice analog synthesizer with preset saving and editing.

100

This technology makes you focused on doing the task and you don't have some minigame and some group conversation and some letters about where your vacation is taking you. It means you're locked in on creating. We need the focus on less distractions when creating.

100

This technology limits you to playing about 8 or 16 samples at once. If you want a synthesizer you'd have to digitize it outside and bring in in on floppy disk. If you want to converse with your friends at an EBB you'd have to close the program down and open the program that let's you ring it up.

100

We have had no idea how far Bogdan Raczynski pushed the limits of technology until it was revealed on mylar melodies' Why We Bleep he used Scream Tracker on the 1980's computing power of 386 and 486 eventually upgrading the software he used to Impulse Tracker. You have capability to work with less.

Cohost allowed us to become aware of the silent battles we would've never heard of otherwise.

Cohost user quackintosh plus writes, "like 5 or 6 years ago i noticed that my neighbors across the parking lot from my apartment had put a trans pride flag and a pansexual pride flag in their window for pride month, so i decided to signal back to them by hanging up my asexual pride flag and my genderqueer pride flag in the same places. the next day when i got home from work they had responded to my signal by adding a pup play flag and an age play flag and, to be honest, if this was a competition, i lost.

Cohost became a safe space for unpacking complex feelings around the high expectations our parents often place on our shoulders.

Cohost user Kortney writes, "when I was telling my mom about planning to go to MFF 2019, I showed her a couple of pictures of friends' sonas (and also mine mixed in!) just to be like "this is what these folks get up to, I have a bunch of friends in this group" and she was promptly like "so a bunch of these folks want to represent themselves as these wild creatures in crazy colors and someone you know just wants to be a plain old deer. well, I guess it takes all kinds. ...fursona shamed by my mom." Kourtney follows up with another post, "Mom, I have something to tell you ... I'm not a sparkledog."

All the people who the new furs think are icky are who made this community and who kept it hospitable to all. These things being icky to some are what kept the rent down. I'm not against cons getting big and compartmentalized, youths developing themselves more separately. I'm against bleaching it.

There were kind and brilliant people at the fringes of the personal computer age when they were garage projects then there was the money that other people who saw the age coming in decided to take as much of the money and buy islands to leave the countries in rot.

Mark E Smith and the Fall is such a fun but sleazy feeling! I get the same feeling from Sleaford Mods!

I was making a reference to Darren at Consolidated Cardboard, Tom's old co-worker in Newbridge. Darren always calls to spill tea about work. Darren starts calls with the name "Ploptron 9000" in a robot voice.

As it is now artists and labels are earning well with Bandcamp. I want to let listeners check out Subvert and they could participate. Either way I want listeners to buy some music. These creators deserve it.

100

Within the monetary system cooperatives like Mondragon have been run successfully and became models for other cooperatives. The cooperative formed in 2024 for artists, labels and supporters called Subvert has a vision to do what digital music platforms do but the cooperative members have control.

100

Alternatively the artists would be members of the cooperative and the cooperative as a regular condition have zero percent of artists' money go to them and beg the listener for a donation when they're paying for content. This isn't implausible with the monetary system but it must be enforced.

100

Here on Bluesky creators are promoting #bandcampfriday and the percent of money destined for the artists on Bandcamp that goes to the corporation is set to zero today and on selected first Fridays. In a monetary system that incentivizes profits always being prioritized this is generous.
