I agree that's the right metric, but I doubt that the mechanism is actually application volume/spam/low-quality applications. For instance, the number of days a role is open is *also* flat on top of the flat time from application-to-hire. It just doesn't appear to be true that matching is the crux

DJ @eschaton-avoidance.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
In contrast, time from application-to-hire has stayed flat indicating that the additional application volume is *not* causing candidates who do get hired to be hired more slowly.

A one-shot review by a free tier chatGPT model thinks it is unlikely to be an accurate reconstruction of a real room, it is a very very weird shape for a room which should make us more skeptical not less, and there's a complete lack of any verification. How is the default stance here not skepticism?

Source for that section, which shows your objection that "faculty positions" are somehow separate from "those able to do science at a high level" is misplaced

Further, there is no "Access consciousness" in LLMs as per Ned Block! The post continues to confuse the meaning of LLM outputs for the functional experience of the LLM. An LLM has *no access or executive control over processing*! It is a purely feed-forward function! This is not serious.

This vastly overstates the "continuity" of LLMs which compute a forward pass, then die. You can have another instance compute another forward pass after, but it is not the same entity.
A passage describing LLM continuity as the duration of a "chat" rather than the duration of a forward pass

New right wing thing is describing crimes as generically as possible to pretend like they're not crimes. Someone gets convicted of conspiracy and they start yelling "Wow so it's illegal to make plans with friends now"

two days ago centrists were telling us "you just like AOC and hate other Ds" was the reason we said her message on ICE was better and that all too common construction wasn't any more true then

I'd be ecstatic to hear D leadership or moderates call ICE "thugs" or refuse to talk about "criminal immigrants"/ICE just needing reform/better leaders, even if I'd prefer AOC to also not be using the "kitchen table issues" dichotomy. I welcome counterexamples! (worse and better examples attached)

I think this is a horrible thing to say. I think using the platform of one of the biggest accounts on the site to call someone a pedophile because unrelated people were horrible to someone you like is an ur-example of why social media is toxic and dogpiles happen. This is literally Musk behavior!

Using the "New Testament God Good and Kind/Old Testament God Violent and Retributive" dichotomy inherently paints those who don't follow the New Testament as violent and retributive. It's Antisemitic.

This is Polis also, and I know Lawrence Summers self-describes as being the political center
Jared Polis pull-quote saying "We have a lot more that unites us than what divides us, and that's sometimes challenging in this day and age with people peddling division on both sides of the aisle" as an example of him speaking from the center

Even taking the most naive demonstration of the correlation, a 10% absolute increase in infant mortality correlates to a totally wild 4 additional children per woman, so the scaling doesn't work at all
