Military cooperation is fine. The EU has printed a big bunch of cash to spend on EU defense and boost the EU economy. European countries are on the hook for it. The UK wants to dip its paws in the fund, transferring GDP from the EU to the UK. When asked to contribute, the UK gets in a huff.

The European Defence Fund (EDF) is financed primarily through the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF)—the long-term, seven-year EU budget.For the 2021–2027 period, the fund has a total budget of nearly €8 billion, allocated directly from the centralized EU budget. These funds are supplemented by national co-financing from EU Member States, who provide the bulk of the money for actual capability development and procurement.
