On ECRL, the Prime Minister has announced that Phase 1 between Kota Bharu to Gombak will be operational as early as December, while repeating the announcement made earlier last month that an extension to Rantau Panjang to Sungai Golok is in the works

‪Nothing about the budget yet says anything about buying new buses to increase our urban city bus fleet, or even accelerating the timeline for service recovery for mainline services that has been plagued by endless track works…‬ ‪…but there’s billions to spare for RON 95 it seems‬

Budget 2027: gov to continue transit passes like MY50, with a new monthly pass for KTM commuter services soon, all while a huge fuel subsidy bill overshadows other forms of spending, which arguably could be better spent on transit development in a once-in-a-lifetime fuel crisis
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in traditional Malay attire delivering a budget speech at a parliamentary podium, standing beside a slide titled "Kad Pengangkutan Awam Diperkasa" outlining My50 and MyKomuter50 transport benefits; sign-language interpreter lower-left and broadcaster logos top-right.A slide announces 2027 subsidies, aid and incentives exceeding RM80 billion while a government minister speaks at a parliamentary podium; slide notes RM40 billion fuel subsidies and nearly RM3.3 billion in JKM assistance.

The Loke will be a LION if he forces Johor to integrate BMJ buses into the BAS.MY network Commuters in Johor shouldn’t have to contend with two bus networks with vastly different service quality

Putrajaya Corporation is launching a new bus service with a new bus model from Handal Indah and eMoovit that shadows much of MRT Feeder Bus T511 route, but it’s downright diabolical to see the launch on a weekday with no fanfare Can't people launch something on weekends for once

Not that it was intentional but it is a nice coincidence to see that the design turned out to resemble a speedometer with arrows instead constituting as transit routes in theme for F1 racing and all

Went to check out more of the bus services before leaving Sepang and I started to notice that the EDS units are installed on the tents leading to queues as means of wayfinding, which may be hard to see from afar as they’re quite small and not very bright

Tunneling is always a good solution to anything inconvenient

By makeshift, it was basically some engineering vehicles, on-site technical vans, and a tow truck all on a site surrounded by mechanics kept cool under a tent

Not an F1 fan but I got my fair share of witnessing some pit-stop action when a RapidKL bus had to change out its flat tyres in a makeshift workshop at SIC’s car park

Wayfinding at the bus parking is incrementally improving, with big, bright coloured signages brought in and installed replace the A3 laminated papers that were previously used to direct people to the right queues, though new mobile standees are also seen as well

One thing did struck me odd was how the destination displays still show KLIA2 despite the term replaced with KLIA T2 instead, which shows how much people still recognise KLIA2 more

Ernest is: on transit! 🚌🚇🚅 @ernestonpt.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Arrived at KLIA T2 to catch the bus to SIC and the addition of the Electronic Display Sign Destination LED right before you queue was a neat touch Although any attempts to replicate the actual EDS on the buses beyond colour is probably not the case
Electronic Destination Board installed right at the start of the queue that displays “R2 KLIA2-SIC” in RapidKL EDS format

From my understanding with a conversation with staff, this issue is unlikely to be resolved soon, which may cascade into crowd crushes at the train shuttles heading to Putrajaya
000
Ernest is: on transit! 🚌🚇🚅 @ernestonpt.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
The root cause of the delay on the MRT Putrajaya line seems to be loss of power on the southbound tracks from UPM, complicated by Set 219 stalled at Taman Equine, so there’s two shuttles between UPM and 16 Sierra, and 16 Sierra to Putrajaya

There was something that’s also said over the speaker but it’s so garbled that it’s impossible to hear what was said, which makes the announcements a pointless exercise as I needed to ask staff of what was said instead

Heads up to those heading towards Putrajaya to change to ERL towards KLIA for F1: all Putrajaya-bound MRT Putrajaya Line trains terminates at UPM, and you’re required to change trains again at 16 Sierra before continuing towards Putrajaya

Night train report: 01:45 at Kelana Jaya where the gates went up 3 minutes earlier so everyone waiting could head up to the platforms to catch the train sooner Observed that half of the riders passed through the free gate while the other half insisted to tap and pay

Nothing in particular with his politics but it is a shame to see the loss of the the current parliament’s strongest public transport advocate, Lee Chean Chung, right before the year-end budget season to push for more transport-related expenditure

Haven’t seen a good map depicting all travel options to and from Sepang Circuit for F1 weekend, so I’ve made one to show all travel options to the circuit, including lesser known bus options and connecting rail services beyond KLIA Transit:
A logarithmic time chart illustrating travel time and commuting options between different types of transit options out of KLIA T2 and other venues after using the shuttle buses

After a day of giving visitors the Malaysian experience of boarding buses from the main road, shuttle bus operations has shifted to the dedicated bus grounds outside of the circuit, but given the Malaysian heat, this should be upgraded to have shelters in the future

Ernest is: on transit! 🚌🚇🚅 @ernestonpt.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Seems that RapidKL has got their act together by coordinating with relevant agencies to improve passenger flows and pick up/drop off spots, something that arguably should’ve been done before Day 1 Future improvements to SIC should include a bus parking & terminal for events

Crowd management for the shuttle buses for end of Friday at F1 looked is borderline deadly that people are overloading by standing on the upper deck of the double-decker buses, potentially dangerously exceeding the Volvo B8L maximum permitted carrying capacity Photo credits: @toritori25301

With F1 happing in the same weekend as the KL Standard Chartered marathon, visitors in KL can benefit from using the free and special night train services Unfortunately, LRT Shah Alam Line isn’t included, with the operating times and coverage same as previous years like 2024:

The concept of event-day only stations or limited-service stations next to an event venue isn’t novel, where cities such as London (Kensington [Olympia]) or Hong Kong (Racecourse) exists only for event days

Ernest is: on transit! 🚌🚇🚅 @ernestonpt.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Until someone comes around to fund the rail link (Bahrain, YTL, SIC etc), people can only settle for less for instead a bus shuttle service between the airport and various places around Sepang and Dengkil

With regards to the lack of transit connectivity to Sepang International Circuit, I raise a rail extension idea: extend the ERL to serve the Sepang circuit and make it a race-day station to connect it with a rail link

Either way, public transport in the city seems to be a foreign concept to politicians and those complaining about road closures due to marathons
000
Ernest is: on transit! 🚌🚇🚅 @ernestonpt.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Competent city authorities would have traffic management plans far in advance, like Osaka showing staggered road closures almost half a year before the start of city’s titular marathon, rather than having politicians acting surprised at road closures due to marathons

There's a great write-up about the styling and architecture of this new housing estate, built on the former Filton airfield in Britsol, that was fast-tracked for approval to be built to solve the housing crisis in the UK: www.ribaj.com/buildings/br...

It will be a pipe dream to replicate the layout of this neat housing estate in Malaysia all because local councils follow PlanMalaysia guidelines to the teeth and reject any compact and car-lite layouts for new housing developments, dooming us to perpetuate our car-centricity

Took time to admire this lovely brick-styled and dense housing estate (with many features illegal in Malaysia) built as part of an integrated township development with a planned rail link before realising and shocked that it developed by… the UK subsidiary of Malaysia’s YTL Corporation!

It was great to see friends and strangers showing up for the exhibition to learn more about wayfinding, or simply showing up to support for better-designed public spaces like public transport I'm looking forward to host the exhibition again so keep an eye out for that too!

One of my favourite non-transit related wayfinding story in Malaysia was how Putrajaya got Australia-based EmeryDesign to conceive wayfinding for the new administrative capital around the same time with KLCC, which both share resemblances in design language when examined closely

Turning around and there's an interpretative table featuring various design mockups and posters, including a River of Life Wayfinding map, which was arguably world-class (London had launched its award-winning city wayfinding few years prior) but fell short due to lack of vision:

Long overdue but here's a throwback to when I lots of fun showcasing what wayfinding in public transport is all about in the Works In Transit Exhibition held earlier in June at Sibermerdeka's former premises! Here's a thread over what was shown during the exhibition:

Amazing to see the government undermining its own public transport modal share goals by making driving even cheaper and subsidising more petrol for drivers at the loss of opportunity to reinvest in more buses and trains in a defining fuel crisis of our time

Sad to see the quality of transport-related journalism literally dropping in live time when you have a newspaper of record like The Star citing nonexistent MRT and LRT stations like Jalan Bukit MRT and Jalan Reko LRT, or even citing Kajang 2 as an LRT station instead of KTM

As Tsukuba Express celebrates its 20th anniversary by showing the development of its stations across the years, one can’t help to make disappointing comparisons to many Malaysian railway stations, like Salak Tinggi ERL station on the Express Rail Link, still having poor surrounding land use today
