Roll on the next World Cup, where Spain will be one of the main hosts in the centenary edition. The last World Cup to be held in Spain, in 1982, has to rank as one of the most memorable youtu.be/AK8pmVseFuk?...

So when people, make oversimplistic statements like many I’ve seen on social media since the final - some bordering on downright ignorance, even bigotry - you need to understand the relationship between football and the people, in Argentina and South America in general.

The words of some of their fans, were ‘this team is all we’ve got. Everything else has gone to shit’. So when they won, the release, was like something you’ll never witness anywhere else.

I watched a Copa 90 documentary on Argentina fans in Buenos Aires on the day of the 2022 World Cup final. The importance of that team to the Argentinian people, can’t be overstated. When they threw away that 2-0 lead in the Qatar final, it felt that their world was caving in.

Controversial statement to say, but South America takes international football a lot more seriously than Europe. When they lose it hurts, in a way doesn’t elsewhere. The passion and determination is on another level. And yes that passion can overspill, as it did with Argentina last night .

You can never write off Argentina. Tim Vickery points out how South American football is unfairly underrated by Europeans. And that South America was arguably the ground zero for the very concept of a World Cup, over 100 years ago.

They have class players, beyond Messi, playing for top clubs. But as with Portugal with Ronaldo, with his retirement is imminent, will free them up, to not be defined by him all. Argentina is a country that somehow has a conveyor belt of world class players, it can produce on tap.

Last night was the worst performance I’ve seen from an Argentina team in a World Cup, since the final of Italia 90.

Why don’t FIFA also include a chunky bracelet, a cigar, a silver wig, and a restraining order, and hand out a full Jimmy Saville starter kit?

Of course the holder used to automatically qualify. So that would have to be brought back at least

I saw this idea discussed as far back as during Italia 90. And there were 24 teams back then, not 48.

If only Norway hadn’t rested their entire first team in their final group game against France. They’d be in the semi finals. And one of England or France, would have gone out last night

The BBC projecting England’s embrace of Reform onto Wales. Forgetting that 85% of the Welsh electorate refused point blank to vote Reform.

Found this post on FB. It’s graphically spells out what would most likely happen under a Reform government. It’s brutal and disturbing. Because you fear it’s not far from what they plan to do. It’s chilling and leaves you cold.

Stuart Millard brought this to my attention on his latest YT upload. And then SNL UK did a skit based on it last night. I vaguely remember this as a kid. But didn’t realise how realise how sinister it looks. Call the cops. youtu.be/r0wDjWOnHcY?...

When you consider they were a regular fixture in England’s top two divisions throughout much of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Plus they have a pretty big catchment area to draw upon, you can see they’re a club that clearly belong a bit higher up the pyramid than where they are now

Even occasional power cuts, are more of a blessing in disguise. Less working hours. More leisure time. Business will have to rely less on digital tools, and have to start recruiting people to undertake admin and clerical tasks again, that involve actually communicating with people

And here’s me thinking that Catholicism by definition entirely rests on papal authority. And that the Pope and the College of Cardinals selecting them, can’t have that authority questioned. Vance, the Catholic, clearly chucks his memos from the Vatican in the waste paper basket
