***but seriously, I looked at the parking lot after leaving the meeting. why do you drive a land yacht if you claim to want safe streets.

while i was the sexiest person at the meeting (due to my relative youth and pedestrian/cyclist support) sexiness alone cannot beat the horde of NIMBY retirees. the cause* demands manpower**. *walkable neighborhoods where pedestrians won't get hit by cars **people who don't drive giant SUVs***

I've heard the song (I actively look up popular music) but not "in the wild," most stores play 5+ year old songs not music popular rn. Some people brag about not listening to country but if you aren't listening to "hot" radio stations or playlist equivalents you won't hear new music!

i've met so many moms who got diagnosed as adults after their kids did, increased awareness (esp for women/primarily inattentive) now is def leading to an increase in diagnosis. personally, my brother was diagnosed two decades ago but i was only diagnosed recently bc of comorbidities.

Omg a hit (to me at least) skeet. Admire my ebike.
a light blue ebike with black panniers, a silver metal rack, a horrible chartreuse green handlebar cupholder and helmet, and a sticker that says "don't make me use my flail"

Yes! My county wants me to switch from mixed-use (wide pedestrian type paths) to bicycle to car infrastructure seamlessly when that's not possibly for a number of reasons. Pedestrians don't like it, I don't like it, drivers don't like it and it's actively dangerous.

I now believe that to obtain a drivers license people must complete a certain number of hours either biking or walking to places in their community (if they are physically able to). Makes you more invested in community infrastructure and a better driver!

And I could go on and on! I appreciate everyone trying their best in government or as a volunteer trying to improve infrastructure but it's very obvious that cars > every other mode of transit.

erin @erinsspace.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
Biked 24 miles on Sunday and ran into a major mixed use trail closure that wasn't communicated well by the county. The local volunteer bike organization had set up an unofficial detour map because the country hasn't bothered. Lots of bike lanes that aren't protected and only exist for half a mile.

I thought my community pedestrian and bike infrastructure was solidly okay until I bought an ebike and started using it instead of a car for short trips. Within a month my opinion drastically changed lol.

got that from a couple people at (a utah) college when i told them i grew up near dc lol. i didn't understand the fox news propaganda at the time so i was like "...yes? why wouldn't it be? i mean, your metro line could catch on fire temporarily or you could get in a traffic accident i guess?"

[writing my county government] im such a big, terrible, mean cyclist... so bad at following the rules of the road... so cruel to cars and pedestrians... you wanna sequester me in separate cycling routes... you wanna quarantine me away from normal law-abiding car infrastructure so bad

Public transit theoretically exists here but because it's significantly slower than both my car and ebike those are my two options too. As much as I don't like The Youths on their illegal emotos it's VERY obvious cars are the greater threat to my health, whether I'm on my ebike or in my car.

bad: had to haul ass home from the bookstore on my ebike to beat a thunderstorm good: bookstore finally got copies of A Trade of Blood

if transphobes are so worried about people's bone density why aren't they aggressively promoting weight lifting instead of harassing, like, 1% of the population (/s) could be spending that time more productively: offline and in the gym (unironically i do think this would be good for them tho)

hasn't dulles been trying to phase out people movers for a while? they built a light rail system under the airport to take people from the terminal to most of the concourses, this isn't new?

I've seen people trying to argue their emotos should be treated like ebikes (<20mph), but if your "ebike" goes 30+ on throttle it's not a bicycle, c'mon man. I'm all for PEVs* but they have to be categorized effectively. * excepting 20+mph scooters, those are death traps

erin @erinsspace.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
The US should look at basic regulations for emotos as a category. Require serial numbers to be sold in the US and a path to moped/moto registration on a state level. Make them easier to use for responsible riders, distinct from lower speed ebikes (and off sidewalks), and harder for kids to get.

Breakfast smoothie (fruit + protein yogurt + oat milk + chia seeds) is 90% of my breakfast everyday and is arguably a healthy choice! I'm with you on this. If hitting your daily fruit guidelines is wrong I don't want to be right.

Yep. My situation. Taking public transit to my workplace is convoluted and takes 3-4x (at least) as long as driving. I've started running close errands via ebike and I use public transit when I go into the city but medium length trips take much longer using bus rather than car and the time adds up.

erin @erinsspace.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
They're all over social media and my neighborhood. I see kids on emotos that do 25+mph too. I'm a fan of electric alternatives to cars but they need to be treated as ebikes (top speed of 20mph on throttle) or motos (banned from sidewalks/bike lanes). A 20+mph standing scooter is a death trap.

I've also noticed a lot of samey sex scenes in popular romance/romance-adjacent books recently! Def not all authors, but I'm more selective when picking up M/F books in some subgenres now. Fwiw I appreciated how you (and the other half of Kit Rocha) did not do that in Consort of Fire!

erin @erinsspace.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
I'm not part of that community so that is a surprise! It's annoying the conflation of all sexual content in books means people don't know the difference between romantic subplots, romance, erotica, and books with occasionally sex scenes (dark/disturbing content or no).
130
erin @erinsspace.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
and erotica is fine, actually! people are just deeply weird about the idea women like sex, women write about sex (in genre fic even!) and women may like reading about sex (marginal amounts of sex to erotica).
030
erin @erinsspace.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
oh definitely! just saying if people are calling anything with marginal amounts of sex porn they need to start grouping the books written by dudes in there too (including upsetting or badly written content). but no, it's only books with primarily female audiences for SOME REASON...
130
erin @erinsspace.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
a couple sex scenes don't make a full length novel erotica! game of thrones probably has more sex in first couple books than ACOTAR but no one's calling GOT erotica 😒 i'm not even an ACOTAR fan (lost interest after the first two) but people calling it fairy porn is bonkers. pick a better example!

I've successfully lowered the amount of meat in my diet by increasing the amount of beans I consume, but I'm stuck waiting for lab dairy to scale so I can eat science yogurt for breakfast every day (non-science yogurt is still, unfortunately, a large part of my diet).

like, if I was secretary of defense I'd try to cut a deal and let navy members opt into the moderna norovirus vaccine trials (only if they want to ofc) you're the guy in charge of military ships and you're NOT trying to stop easily transmissible illnesses with common sense preventative care?
110
erin @erinsspace.bsky.social · 16/04/2026
True, but wrt cows I am hopeful about lab dairy products. Imo, reducing the amount of beef you eat isn't hard, reducing dairy takes significantly more effort.

I'll defend velociraptors - I have a hard time imagining a Tyrannosaurus in scale, but I CAN imagine a more bloodthirsty knife-wielding turkey. It scares me.
