So... we all agree Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is the best new romantic comedy in ages, right?

Here's the video. I'm not a biologist so I obviously can't vet any of this, but it at least seems believable.

Marine Biologist Reacts to WHALEFALL | Can a Whale Swallow a Human?

The first chamber in a sperm whale's stomach grinds and crushes its food, so I hope he brought a suit of plate armor, too. Also a pressure chamber for when the whale dives.

This is being a little fast and loose with the word, "swallowed." They were pulled into the whales' mouths and immediately spit out. My understanding is no humpback has an esophagus remotely large enough to swallow a human. Hell, no blue whale does, either.

I saw a video from a biologist answer this recently - I'll try and dig it up later. The short answer is, "no, not really."

I've watched several movies entirely because a screenshot or GIF looked cool. Alt text providing simple info on the source of an image can be useful to everyone.

This brings back such a visceral memory of smelling the fry oil from the indoor playground at the McDonald's in Gorham, Maine... Fucking magic.

Anyway, I like the idea of the Dems targeting red districts, and we're past the primaries when we had to worry about them using donations against progressives and leftists, so I figure it's a good time to toss them some cash.

I just donated $17 to the DCCC. If exactly 999,999 other people do the same... actually, that'd be a really bizarre coincidence. Like *really* weird. The odds of them getting that precise amount through that specific incremental value is incomprehensibly small.

no one reads the articles. all of the quotes assume this is because the party is broke because of (spins wheel) whatever that person is mad about today, but the reason they’re scrambling is because they’re trying to run moonshot campaigns in deep red districts they ordinarily would never attempt

The oldest Christmas movie I'm planning on looking at this month, The Mistletoe Bough is mostly interesting as a bridge between Victorian Christmas ghost stories and later Christmas horror movies.

In situations like those, I assume foreign leaders are happy to maintain the illusion. Why not stay on the megalomaniac's good side by letting him think he's calling the shots?

One of the harshest insults you can give a movie is saying the review will be a lot of fun to write.

I'll watch whatever number of boring ass seasons of Rings of Power Amazon wants to make, because the music's pretty and you can always just zone out and enjoy the vibes, but a ten-hour remake of the first wizard movie? I don't have the stomach for that.

There was a point in my life when I wanted to be an TV/movie critic, and I'm so glad I didn't succeed, because those poor people need to watch this and I don't.

The bad news is I've rarely seen a movie burn through so much goodwill so fast with a misguided ending. But that does mean it first built a lot of goodwill to burn through, so....

75% horror feels seasonably appropriate. Granted, two-thirds of those are Christmas horror, but I've got to stay on brand.
Screenshot of my Letterboxd profile showing the last four movies I watched: Pooka! (3 stars), A Nasty Piece of Work (4 stars), a rewatch of Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation (5 stars, and I will die on this hill), and the 1911 silent film, Dante's Inferno (also 5 stars, albeit for very different reasons)

There are *a lot* of gorgeous horror movies. One of my favorites is the 1989 French Christmas horror film, "3615 code Père Noël," which is also the missing link between Die Hard and Home Alone.

This bunny was hanging out with their best bunny friend, who was unfortunately feeling shy. But this bunny just struck a pose and insisted I take a picture. And who am I to argue with bunnies?

A Christmas horror movie directed by Oliver Stone about a sword and sorcery comic writer whose amputated hand goes on a murder spree sounds amazing until you realize there has to be a reason you've never heard about it, and that reason probably won't be that it was too good to be remembered.

Secret. Of. Fucking. NIMH. I'll be more specific: the owl. I got to the owl scene and dragged my parents out of the theater. I had nightmares for years. I didn't see the rest of the movie until I was in college, and I WAS RIGHT. TERRIFYING. Obviously I love it now.

I enjoyed it. Good stuff. But also kind of a prestige drama version of Smallville, which I respect but was a little underwhelmed by. I admit this is a me problem. I know my shortcomings.

Lanterns is very good, they were right to structure this story as a ministries, and... I'd have liked it more if I weren't spoiled by all the big-budget superhero shows we've gotten over the last six years or so.

The downside is that's ALL you're getting. Like, it's basically just taking a bunch of illustrations from an edition of Inferno and making them move. No real character work or story. But, for me, that's enough. It's so cool!
