This movie sounds awesome, but the only way to watch it seems to involve spending $40+ on a used DVD. So if someone could pester Criterion or Arrow or Vinegar Syndrome or whoever to put out a new edition, I'd appreciate it.

And here's my review for the sequel to the movie of the same name released decades earlier, because I wanted to make this as confusing as possible.

October is here, and now more than ever the ritual must be observed.

Relieved to hear this. For a minute there I was worried they'd made this fun and engaging.

All right, it's October, which means it's time to start Christmassing. Let's kick this off with the 2025 Silent Night, Deadly Night reboot, which I actually liked. A lot, in fact. Yeah, I really wasn't expecting that.

So that's Duel. Not sure what I expected. Definitely feels like a precursor to Mad Max, and you can tell it's Spielberg behind the camera. Extremely well made for a 70's suspense flick... but still very much a 70's suspense flick, for better or worse.

I know the main point needs to be that they don't get to reinvent language when it suits them, but... Do they think calling it "super intelligence" makes it sound *less* stupid?

Possibly the tornado in Wizard of Oz - the technical skill that went into that still amazes me. Other contenders include countless shots in Zeman's Invention for Destruction, stop-motion in the original King Kong, forced perspective in Lord of the Rings, and the AT-AT Walkers in Empire Strikes Back.

So, I've got three pounds of beef in the fridge that needs to go into the slow cooker in about an hour to be ready for dinner tonight, so I'm not loving the fact there doesn't seem to be a way to determine whether it's part of this goddamn recall short of waiting for a response from Kroger.

Toy Story 5 is solid. Every installment in the main series has at least been good, so I'm not surprised this is, as well. I like that Woody isn't the lead (the movie would have been even better if he'd been cut entirely, or had just gotten a cameo or bit part).

I can actually explain this because I am old enough to remember Superhero Movie discourse in the early 2000s, and have watched as sentiments have gone through these cycles a few times now.
"One thing I don't get is people saying Lanterns is embarrassed to do GL stuff. It's sparing and grounded but there's not bathos to undercut any of its actual use in any way I'd think meant embarrassment."

I just watched Chilly Scenes of Winter, and I'm genuinely curious whether the director intended it to feel that much like horror, or if it just drifted there as society's understanding of abuse evolved.

Sounds like this is for promos before shows/movies, most likely similar to what HBO-Max already does. Annoying but not a deal breaker (at least for me): as long as they're not interrupting what I'm watching, I'm willing to tolerate a little bs beforehand.
