I’ve got a beginning of an idea brewing in my brain about how the premise of AI requires us to believe our authentic human selves just aren’t good enough. We can’t trust ourselves to say/write/think the right thing, so we should outsource everything to a machine that does it for us…

Urgh, I am frustrated. Wanted to design a logo, drew a picture and was super careful to make sure all the lines were nice and clean, and when I look at it now it kinda looks like AI to me. Even though I made it myself and know it isn’t. I hate that anything artistic is suspect now.

I try to plan and outline in advance but I need to be dragged into it kicking and screaming. It’s hard for me to get a feel for characters and story when I am looking at the big picture, I need to be in the scene. But once I write a couple chapters I get a better sense of where I’m going.

Text: Atzana wasn’t enthusiastic about her betrothal to Prince Vamil, but surely she wouldn’t be so foolish as to throw away the security of a good marriage because another one of the emperor’s sons captured her fancy.

“Pfft. As if you were never sixteen yourself,” Tholias scoffed.

“I wasn’t a princess,” Kasetris told him.

“But you were a fool.”

“It wasn’t like I had much of a choice.” A mere temple singer couldn’t simply say “no” to the Second Priest of Imar. At the time it seemed like an honor to catch his eye. “But I was a fool.”

My WIP is Divine Vessels (working title). It’s about a woman who has the god of music dwelling within her. She discovers her husband is alive and imprisoned in an underground labyrinth, sets out to rescue him, and becomes embroiled in a rebellion against the kings of gods and men. #RevPitWaiting

Was hard to choose, but I decided to go with a quote from the villain that sums up the ideology Vreta stands in opposition to: the idea that some people are superior to others by virtue of their birth and therefore entitled to decide the fate of everyone else.

I write fantasy, YA and adult. I wrote my first manuscript circa 1994 at the age of 12 but you’d have to be really generous to call it a book. Started seriously working towards publishing in 2019, after I was diagnosed with ADHD. I also draw pictures. Here’s a scene from my #RevPit entry.

I redrew a picture of the main couple from the novel I’m working on, changing the characters’ style to reflect the ancient setting of the book. I looked all over for the original picture from 2021 to see how much I have improved (or not) since then but I couldn’t find it.

Vreta is afraid of her psychic powers— specifically, she is afraid she will misuse them. People with the same sort of mind-reading, memory-altering powers she possesses tend to be the villain of the story, and she fears she is doomed to go down the same path.

The relationship between Kasetris and her missing husband and how they rebuild that relationship after they are reunited drives the main plot of the book, but Kasetris’s relationship with Atzana, the girl she’s been raising for several years, is also complicated and important.
