In the CSIS dataset, "purged" is a broad term. It includes officers removed from office, under investigation, dismissed , and senior officials who have disappeared from public view. It does not necessarily mean arrest or imprisonment, although some cases do progress to criminal prosecution.

This is no longer just a matter of removing a few corrupt generals. A CSIS database identified 101 senior PLA officers who had been purged 2022. Even Zhang Youxia, who was extremely close to Xi, was removed. Xi has consolidated unprecedented personal control over the #PLA. #China #Taiwan
