22. Highway To Hell. Rewatch of a movie I barely remembered except for its Fangoria cover. It was super entertaining and should have been an adventure-“horror”-comedy classic, but I guess that happened in another timeline. #31nightsofhorror

21. Obsession. Pretty good, but not exactly the horror revolution I had been promised. If you want to watch someone more or less rape someone for 90 minutes and then let her pay the price for it, then I guess this is the movie for you. #31nightsofhorror

20. Undertone. This was so good. I can’t understand why more people aren’t raving about it. Scared the shit out of me, something very few horror movies manage. Watch it in a dark room, maybe with headphones on for added effect. #31nightsofhorror

19. Carrie. Brian De Palma. Rewatch. I still find it so incredible, and so incredibly heartbreaking. One of the best movies ever made. #31nightsofhorror

The Stuff

18. Freddy Vs Jason. There are so many reasons to dislike this, but I surprisingly did not. But: It’s hard to think of another movie where the aesthetics feel so much of its time, in a bad way. #31nightsofhorror

17. Eaten Alive. Tobe Hooper’s followup to Texas Chainsaw. This is _not at all_ as good, but it has a certain charm. The sound design is great! It basically sounds like someone repeatedly fell on a keyboard, while someone else strummed out of tune piano wires. #31nightsofhorror

16. Happy Birthday To Me. The one with the shish kebab. Just all out entertaining. Giallo-ish, but honestly, some twists in this one would make Martino, Argento, and Lenzi roll their eyes. #31nightsofhorror

15. The Stuff. Larry Cohen. Brilliantly funny. Amazing goopy effects, and actors that look like they’re having the time of their lives. #31nightsofhorror

14. Shelby Oaks. Actually managed to scare me a few times. The end comes out of nowhere, in both a good way and in a way that makes me wish the movie had spent more time anchoring _that_ theme. #31nightsofhorror

12. Two Evil Eyes. Romero & Argento do one Poe story each, with pretty bland results. I remember not being a fan when it was new, but this rewatch was still a letdown. Ah well. #31nightsofhorror

The Howling, on a bootleg VHS at a friend’s house. We were eight or nine. Scared the hell out of us.

10. John Dies At The End. Don Coscarelli. It’s debatable whether this is “horror” at all, but anyway. Rewatch, much more fun than I remembered it. #31nightsofhorror

Sooo … a game I worked on a gamedev lifetime ago & that I’m pretty proud of, is part of the Steam autumn sale and I think you should all play it. This is a stupidly low price for it.

7. The Empty Man. The first 20 minutes are great, the middle is ok, the ending is better again. Cosmic Horror that never chickens out by naming a Lovecraft monster. Looks spectacular. #31nightsofhorror

6. The Thing (2011). Another rewatch. A movie that has no reason to exist really. I did like how much Norwegian they spoke, and there’s a some spectacular scenes of Things on fire.

Jaws: 5/5

This is such a sensible and obvious way to look at games (or movies, or paintings, or poems, or other writing, or music, or, or, or, or etc) that it almost feels weird seeing it stated like this. Anyway, looking forward to reading this book!

Goddamn I love Werner Herzog so much. www.indiewire.com/features/int...

The intention of this young filmmaker was never to remake any [of my films], but making something in the spirit. And I immediately said, “You will fail. It is such a stupid idea. It’s phenomenally, abysmally stupid. I will not take part in it.” He wanted me to explain things and have my voice in it. I said, “You are alone. There’s such a thing as free speech, which I respect. So go ahead and fail.” And it is a failure, period.

It’s so standardized that AI can step in because there’s not real storytelling. It’s mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome AI to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it’s ad nauseam. When it’s ad nauseam, please, please, please let AI step in and do the job.

I am not sure, but I think seeing this .... thing ... day in, day out, is what will finally cause me to snap. (Taking a break now to walk the dog & touch grass)

While walking the dog this morning, we stumbled across five hares playing in a field, or as it turns out not just playing in a field, but (attempting to) make more hares, in a field.

A friend of mine is opening a bluray/dvdshop in Stockholm on Friday: Stock Home Video. It’s a nice place, run by great people. Good selection of movies. I got myself a couple of Harryhausen Sinbads & a Bava I for some reason haven’t seen. If you’re in Stockholm, you should visit.

Stock Home Video, on Karlbergsgatan in Stockholm.

The Golden + The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad.

#LastFourWatched Some stinkers here. A Better Tomorrow 3 was pretty ok though, and Jason Statham movies mostly have a two star ceiling, so that wasn’t surprising.
