"as best I can tell" = "doing a sleep study when the whole point is that I can't sleep during the times they do sleep studies seems less than wholly productive but I certainly do have a whole life history I can point to."

ALSO I have delayed sleep phase, as best I can tell. But every experience of jetlag tells me that I DO still orient myself to the sun. I just want to orient myself to waking between 10am and noon. It still fucks me up to have the dst switch.

The sleep scientists are pretty clear on permanent standard time being the best and safest thing for most people. I have lived it, it was great.

Permanent standard time is the optimal choice for health and safety
It is the position of the AASM that the United States should eliminate seasonal time changes in favor of permanent standard time.

I don't much remember it, but my mom was pretty freaked out by how scared I was by the Care Bears movie. There are scarier early 80s classics (The Last Unicorn, the Secret of NIMH) but I just loved them to pieces. assigned goth at birth I guess

Now picturing a 23nd-century reader wondering about the difference between a convertible, a hatchback, a limo, a minivan, a pickup, a sedan, a station wagon, an SUV, and the mysterious, short lived "cybertruck" of the Second Gilded Age

this is me
Tweet from @ThabanqKhoza showing three extremely similar-looking white cars with distinct hubcabs, with the caption "Girls think this is the same car." It's been quote-tweeted by @Keeeksasf, who says "it's so clearly not, [woman shrugging emoji], the wheels all have different flowers."

the number of glares i get from a particular social set is directly correlated to the color of my hair and whether any progressive messages are on my clothes. it’s actually super helpful as a filtering device. they edit themselves out by not wanting to be cordial to me. a service!

I again ask to people who honestly believe this: What do people like me who grew up in places where disgusting racism was basic conversation, where we literally fought the Klan, where abortion doctors were being murdered- what do you think we are missing out on?

If we can get self-defined liberals to stop defending and supporting a profoundly illiberal state, then for me we have done the most urgent part. Maybe some of them will, down the road, no longer will call themselves Zionist. Maybe they won't.

The problem as I see it is not that there are many people for whom "Zionism" carries (also, or mainly) vague positive meaning, rather it is that far too many people are defending Israeli policies and the deep structures of injustice and oppression of the actually-existing Jewish State.

Do you know, and I say this as someone who hasn't always had a great relationship with alcohol: it's not good or normal to drink yourself into oblivion often enough that you can say this? It's a good thing the kids these days are not all-in on binge drinking as was the norm in my day.

Also 1981 and when I was in high school, in the 1990s, high schoolers at the time were very much part of the teens/20s category that Generation X seemed to indicate and I was as shocked as anyone to discover somewhat later that I am apparently a millennial.

Yes, the blind spot in the original post here is exactly that Dracula is *inventing* a bunch of tropes of genre fiction: “I’m putting together a team,” “we can use the Latest Technology to coordinate!”, “only the Old Magic can defeat It!”, “it thinks it turned one of us, but we can use that!” — &c

We have a bunch of fun X-Men art up in the bedroom and the wee beastie (2;11) is asking their dad who they all are and listening to them solemnly repeat "Storm" and "Polaris" and "Shadowcat" and "Emma" is making my heart sing, it's so cute. (They have decided Storm is best, good job kid.)
