I have this personal gauge: if a trailer sucks, the movie is nearly always good, but if the trailer is awesome, the movie will nearly always be awful. Like, the trailer for Wonder Woman: 1984 using New Order's Blue Monday was SO GOOD. Digger's bad trailer defied my gauge, & now I am bereft

Joker: Folie a Deux was the first film I saw that convinced me its makers had enmity for its audience. Digger goes beyond J:FaD to insist you must experience how much it hates its audience by daring you not to assault the person who sold you the ticket.

I like to think my education has primed me to be an adequate judge of story quality, but I'm wary of stating I thought Digger was, in fact, a terrible movie when some folks are insisting the whole thing will be heralded as a masterpiece in like 5 years; what is wrong with you people?

I'm ambivalent about Nigella Lawson in general, & I love Bake-Off, but my God, why does that woman never put food into her mouth in a non-awkward way? We're 2 episodes in, & she seems like an alien never instructed on how real humans take bites of food what on earth

The introduction of funk into Soft Cell's repertoire works somehow & answers the question, "Is melancholy funk possible?" [yes].

The final Soft Cell album, Danceteria, came out today in the USA; it's a melancholy love letter to a time & place (NYC underground culture c. early 1980s) but also a love letter to the incomparable sleazy-synth talents of the late keyboardist/composer, Dave Ball.
