Sometimes students surprise me. For instance, today, a student came in for an hour-long meeting and only at the end revealed that she'd had a ball python wrapped around her arm and hidden under her hoodie sleeve the entire time.

I read through a draft of my story and deleted all the quips because they straight-up weren't funny, and I think this is good standard practice. Too many stories quip without actually being funny! If that's a character's schtick--quips that flop--then sure, include them, but otherwise, cut it out.

Okay, obviously it sucks that the Lynx are out of the playoffs already--and that they're the only #1 seed team in WNBA history to be booted by a #8 seed team. But also ... if I weren't a Lynx fan, I'd be cheering for Liberty. Jones? Ionescu? Stewart? Xu? Johannes? All incredible to watch!
