Dracula Daily is a cool way to read the epistolary novel, Dracula, since it collates each day's events to be read on the day it happens. There's a substack, email list, and a book. "Dracula season" goes from May 3 through November 7. www.simonandschuster.com/books/Dracul...

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

I took a picture of poison ivy so that you don't have to get up close to see how furry it is (zoom in). Is it felt? You better hope not! (Sorry, I had to throw in a dad joke) I also have a newfound appreciation for the Aculops rhois mites that blister the plant with galls.
Leaves of three, green with red bumpy galls all over their surface. Zoom in and you will see tiny hairs all over the leaves and stems of the poison ivy.

I was adding some MIME-type guards to a file-upload form. That made me think of a château hiring mimes, armed with long baguettes, to guard the gates. While one is at attention & the other is peeling an invisible banana, the mimes hear an ominous rustle in the darkness. "Halt," they don't shout.

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.
