7yo: “Dad, why do we have so many Frog and Toad books?” Me: “Because they’re like the best books ever.” 7yo: “But Dad, I thought your book was the best book ever?” 😊 (This tender bedtime moment came in between the 1,000th & 1,001st time he tried to grab my phone to check scores on the ESPN app)

The one thing more annoying than AI-generated, author-baiting "marketing" scams sent to your work email is when those emails are meant for another author entirely ... and then they ping you again anyway. (Though this DOES make me want to read James M. Tabor's new book, "Lightning Beneath the Sea.")

Also, I had totally forgotten until just now, but my first "football" story as a DP college sports writer was on the 1953 team that got squeezed when Penn eliminated scholarships & kneecapped the program in the ramp-up to formal Ivy League play but still had a powerhouse schedule on the books

On a damp, gray day in Boston, I’m thinking of Seattle—not the weather but b/c I’m still beaming about this event last week @brick-mortar.bsky.social in conversation with the great @walsh.bsky.social, and all the old friends & new faces! We sold out, but I signed bookplates for when it’s restocked!

As a former @bostonglobe.com transportation reporter, I shed a tear at the sight of this misplaced child-size @mbta.com Green Line sweatshirt at PDX airport (3,000 miles from Park Street)

Honored to be highlighted among @csmonitor.bsky.social's best books of the summer. And thank you, Danny Heitman — “voluminous research and wry humor” is a great compliment, and I'm going to have to start using "moneyed rake" & "precarious odyssey" in my book talks! www.csmonitor.com/layout/set/a...

Love these graphics @stmartinspress.bsky.social came up with to promote THE HARDEST, LONGEST RACE! There's still time to pick up a copy for any dads — or anyone who likes a good yarn, braided with snapshots of America in 1909 — in your life as a gift today! Happy to mail you a signed bookplate, too!

When I worked for @bostonglobe.com, I always loved to buy it at the newsstand while traveling on my way to the gate, especially if it had my byline. What a thrill to come back home from a few tour stops and see my name in the Globe again for the first time in years! Thanks, @katekilla.bsky.social!

Philly! Come out to Head House Books at 6:30 tonight to hear about my new book THE HARDEST, LONGEST RACE, in conversation with Paul Hendrickson. Should be a lot of fun! (And don’t just take my word for it; look at these happy people at my NYC reading 😊) headhousebooks.com/event/2026-0...

Things kick off this Sunday/Monday in the NYC area, where the race started in 1909! I'll be at the Katonah Reading Room this Sunday (5/31) at 2:30 pm (with John Swansburg). On Monday (6/1) at 7 pm I'll be at the Barnes & Noble on the UWS with Peter Khoury. Free bookmarks in person, too!

My book is finally here! Come join me on tour! While I won’t be retracing all 4,106 miles of the 1909 Ocean-to-Ocean Race, I have several events lined up, with more to come. If you can't make it, visit ericmoskowitz.com & I'll mail you a signed custom bookplate! Thanks!

In an unlikely turn, my 6yo went from elation to agony when he opened the pizza I brought home and discovered it did NOT have anchovies (or as he put it, “those tiny fish in the little container that I had with Grandpa”) … though he bounced back a second later

Hat tip to Kevin from AAA, who just jumpstarted the ancient Honda Fit we inherited from my mother-in-law — and who, flipping the usual question after hearing about my book (“How’d Ford cheat?”), said “Wait! Don’t ruin it! I’m gonna buy the book!”

So cool to test out typewriters from the 1920s to ‘60s from repairer-dealer-collector Stephentown Typewriter Co for Analog Day at The Clark Art Institute (in conjunction with an exhibit of art made by Raffaella della Olga with modified typewriters)

Watching Celts-Sixers at a sports bar/bowling alley in the Berkshires. My kids’ minds were blown when I told them I knew who took the ubiquitous Bird/Dr. J photo on the wall — the one and only Ted Gartland — and had even seen the negative! (Though I had to explain what a negative was)

The great @keithob.bsky.social at the Power of Narrative Conference, on the scrapbooks and newspaper bound volumes he leafed through in Larry Bird’s hometown: “Libraries” — and librarians — “are crucial to the work we do as narrative storytellers. Full stop.”

Didn’t expect to get choked up walking around the corner to buy circus tickets at the BU Agganis Arena box office, but that’s how life works. Saw that Meth and Red are coming and immediately wanted to text my friend Rod Kurtz—we saw them in Philly in 2000(!). Rod passed away last year. A gut punch.

“Dad, can dogs eat tacos,” my 6-year-old asked, on the escalator at DSW, “or do they fall apart when they eat them?” Wasn’t where I expected the second half of that question to go. 😂🌮🐶

Watching the Pats at my childhood home. Just found this 11/27/1996 Celtics-Lakers ticket while helping my 6yo look unsuccessfully for some old coin albums. Incredible that it was $10 — before variable game pricing even for season ticket holders

I had forgotten the name “Whitman Coin Folder,” but it’s reassuring to know these blue albums I loved as a kid remain unchanged across the decades, still with the power to captivate a screen-obsessed 6-year-old. (“Dad, I just can’t believe I have 2025-D and regular 2023!” 😊)

After the 67th day of school party, my 6yo asked if we could get an ILOVE67 license plate. I said no, because it costs extra and because we may not be excited about 6-7 forever. Then a friend spotted this

This @caity.bsky.social essay reminds me of long ago when I was a newish reporter on a Sunday shift, and the Globe still had its own 7-day cafeteria, and in deadline desperation I tried to pay for a pizza slice with 183 desk-drawer pennies carried carefully from the newsroom in a cough drop bag…

Topps is trolling us all, 6-7, 6-7: my 6 yo spent $7 (of his own money) on a rack pack, pulled a 6’7” Lamelo Ball, discovered it was card #67, and danced gleefully all around the exit at Target, calling out six-sevvvven, six-sevvvven.
