Eric Gomez @ericgomez.bsky.social · 06/07/2026It is a cogent reminder that a change in the expected result isn’t born out of a miracle, but through patient hard work and foundational change. Mexico has failed to achieve that change, that process for over 100 years now. Until it does, it’ll always just be “Sí Se Puede”. 010
Eric Gomez @ericgomez.bsky.social · 06/07/2026You feel proud, head held high in defeat, but that bitter taste in your mouth is there. It’s not going away. It’s the knowledge that this time, it could’ve been different. The phrase “jugamos como nunca y perdimos como siempre” - we played like never before but lost like always is etched in stone. 100
Eric Gomez @ericgomez.bsky.social · 06/07/2026When “Sí Se Puede” time rolls around, unrepentant and unearned hope coexists with historic, existential dread. You’ve seen this happen too many times before, and you know how it will likely turn out. In the end, a sad calm washes over. 110
Eric Gomez @ericgomez.bsky.social · 06/07/2026It’s difficult to explain what happens to Mexicans with a result like this. Best I can express is this: There’s a feeling of unduly elation and odd confidence when it’s going well, right up against the start. It’s then replaced by a cycle of familiar doom when it goes wrong. 130

Eric Gomez @ericgomez.bsky.social · 31/08/2025The fact that organizers will talk about better numbers for Leagues Cup across the board underlines a growing issue with the tournament: it doesn’t care about Mexican fans in Mexico one bit. And Liga MX is just as guilty of that than anyone else. 020
