Just wrapped a delightfully visceral podcast interview with Jeremy Tirrell & @katemadd.bsky.social, the authors of Disgustatory! A Gothic Rhetoric of Consumption. Excited to get this ep edited and out later this fall. A book worth reading. #teamrhetoric

They’re making the author photo awfully prominent here, but who am I to question the editorial judgment of the New York Times.
Illustration of a rotten apple on top of the stack of books under the title “A Top Scholar’s Fall Shows That Universities Don’t Get It,” with the state of the apple being a pretty apt representation of the author’s whole deal.

On a vaguely related note, I was talking w friends recently about how central Reddit has become to our attempts to find info online since chatbots have made search engines like Google even worse. Can’t think of a better example than this, prompted by watching this season of Love Island UK.

What an unceremonious end to CCCC, a key part of my professional career for almost 20 years. Goodbye, @ncte.org. I expect I speak for hundreds and maybe thousands of college writing instructors in saying we’ll find or make our way via other organizations.

Ooh I think there’s a decent case for SimCity 2000, both as a US libertarian fever dream of urban planning and given the city-building genre’s substantial historical ties to stateside development.

Yes! Writing is thinking and writing is learning, not just a secondhand reflection of what someone’s already thought and learned. Something I’m increasingly trying to emphasize in the chatbot policy for my classes.

15 minutes in to Mina the Hollower. Having a blast, and only when I went back to my home screen did I realize how much I need these two red-cloaked, arsenalized, anthropomorphic shop-wreckers to team up in a crossover event for the ages.

So far the thing I’ve found most galling about the Canvas outage is that it’s made me direct students to the meddlesome and awful “Share via OneDrive” attachment option Microsoft jammed into Outlook, in part because of the miserable limitations of Microsoft’s own webforms tool.
