Hyperreal simulacrum as described by Elephant Graveyard. These people live in worlds of representations of things, not of the things, themselves. They’ve divorced “Classic reality.” Mass delusion, pretty much.

His domestic policy is austerity, pipelines, data centers, selling public assets, surveillance state. I like what he has to say on the world stage, but for us living in the place… he’s more like Margret Thatcher than I like.

Did a light burn out or trip a circuit? He’s in the dark. Maybe that’s appropriate.

Looks ungainly. Their website doesn’t seem to show people actually holding the thing while folded. It looks ok sitting on a desk or folded up like a laptop, but I’m gonna have that in my pocket?

Right, so it’s actually much more offensive than it appears at first.

John Roberts and the SCOTUS Republicans have allowed Trump to proceed with his egregious mail-in voting restrictions. 21 years ago, I warned at Roberts' confirmation hearing he would be a dangerously right-wing Chief Justice. I have sadly been proven right, over and over.

93.2%. It’s not “a quarter are at risk,” it’s a far far higher proportion “are actively getting lifelong damage.” The sport isn’t ethical and everyone knows it. No equipment or rule changes are gonna change that.

Over 90% of the donated brains studied had CTE, so the likelihood of “1 in 4” is laughably low. Maybe the donated brains were more often those with signs of dementia, so the rate is somewhat below 90%, but not by much.

If this tech is wildly capable and many many billions are spent on it, a school shooting might go from having 12 victims, to having 6. Problem solved! Oh… Maybe school shooters will see the limitations of this and just build that into their shooting plans… back up to 12…

Wondering why data centers are as unpopular as nuclear waste? It's not the data centers. The problem is both more obvious and more fundamental: The daily lived experience of the AI boom sucks. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/ai-is-maki...

AI is making everything worse
The political problem isn't the data centers — it's that AI is a turd mountain looming over daily life.

I don’t think anyone actually believes that. Is doublethink, and part of self indoctrination. I think a lot of the climate change denial is similar.

Crypto/NFTs seem more like a grift and waste, while AI is being leveraged into something more destructive, used to confuse, mask, and rationalize a flood of awfulness. That said, what’s been developed has some utility, whereas crypto… I haven’t heard of a good use of it.

As usual, the far majority of Dem primary voters will vote for the Dem in the general. A handful won’t, and that’s normal. I’m saying that Dems would do better to engage the vast sea of disaffected non-voters than sell out their principles for a mythical middle. Keep messaging simple and principled.

40% of eligible voters in Michigan didn’t vote in 2022. It’d be best to court them than the sliver of moderate Dems would might not show up or actually pull the lever for Rogers.

There may be some reason having to with short notice or something. But yeah, campaigns should be ready for this stuff. She’s good, deserves better, and can’t afford potentially viral gaffs. Wisconsin (my state) has elected some real dumbasses, and they tend to look like Tom Tiffany.

I do think she tacked very slightly to the center from Obama, and this was integrated with her “experience” sales pitch. Obama was more vague and aspirational and people could project progressive stuff onto him, as they still do. PoliticalCompass made this graphic

Conservatives on X are now claiming that The Odyssey, which had the most profitable live-action opening of the year so far with $264 million, is a box office flop. Just as I suspected, they are incapable of admitting they were wrong. This is the election denialism of pop culture.

The wheels on my hope fell of on December 12, 2000, with Bush v. Gore. I think that indicated what could happen with Republican willingness to vote for incompetence, a total lack of Democratic Party courage or strategy, and the capsizing of Supreme Court integrity.

Dodgers have a team payroll of about $100 more dollars. MLB doesn’t have a salary cap like the NFL. Is very unbalanced throughout.

But not a zero chance of being part of a coalition minority government. The Liberals have done some of their better things with NDP pressure. I understand not wanting to split districts, but PC runs a distant third in some ridings.

A little over 3 million voted third party. Around 90 million eligible voters didn’t vote. I think we should focus on the larger group.

There was a contingent of Bernie supporters who were/are rather toxic, but it’s partly a function of his broad appeal across a lot of traditional left right lines. There’s also a group of socialists who are kinda “smart guys” who like to talk a lot and are serial mansplainers. Minority.

I found both drugs to help, but I had some more side effects with adderall. I found the effect of Ritalin to be simpler and more consistent. Adderall gave me a slightly queasy out-of-body feeling. Ritalin made me jittery at first, but I acclimated after a while (few weeks) and that went away.
