Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...

A casual Star Wars alien fella at the cantina, in a sun faded, reddish photo. Someone will be mad at me for not knowing who this is.

Phil, a balding Caucasian man, poses a model of the garthok, an antagonist from the Coneheads movie.

Phil, a balding caucasian man, points at some CG on a CRT computer monitor, as a younger man looks on. The screen shows a model of a dinosaur attacking a jeep, while there's an actual physical model of that event in the foreground for reference.

an isolated shot of a star wars vehicle. Sorry, I don't know star wars lol

You’d have to ask the man, but I know he uses Renoise pretty much exclusively (maybe FM synthesis notwithstanding)

In a surreal turn of events, one of my favorite musicians of all time, @maxtundra.com, has remixed a song by my band Gemma. It came out amazingly, and I felt compelled to create a music video for it (learning TouchDesigner along the way). Please check it out! youtu.be/SDCCwS_7S-E?...

My wife and I sing a full-song parody of this to our dog (Joni, who looks sort of like a bear). Too good

Feel grateful for older brothers who introduced me to the Stone Roses at a young age (maybe rare for an American?). Magical band, but the basslines really made it for me. Too many great ones to name. And he played on XTRMNTR?! RIP Mani youtu.be/VEOEIo0DxgM?...

Ok, I want all the actors to look exactly like me, and the script to include references to what I had for breakfast and inside jokes I share with my wife. That will be, at last, true cinema (i.e., something to have on in the background while I look at my phone).

RIP D’Angelo. One of the greatest musicians of my lifetime, a heartbreaking loss. He was a genius, and as his interviews in the Sly Stone doc express, he paid a price for putting his art into the world. Eternally grateful for that. Greatest album closer of all time? Tears youtu.be/MTAnBM0ZdVI?...

Man, I love Jaws. Noticing how great the first scene with the mayor is: static camera, just guys talking, but because it's on a ferry, you get this dynamic moving background. Smart stuff!

Fuck it. Trans folks need MATERIAL SUPPORT. @distributeaid.org is launching an HRT Harm Reduction Toolkit that provides 1 year of medical supplies needed to take injection-based HRT. We were planning to go live in January, but I'm not waiting. Fund the kits here: distributeaid.org/hrt-harm-red...

The devil, or often "diablo", is consistently associated with spicy foods. I think this is misguided. The devil's food would be flavorless, and certainly wouldn't jack up your endorphins like a nice habanero hot sauce!

I really like how it goes "brrrnrr" down low the second time through the chorus progression, a perfect counterpoint, and makes you appreciate the doodly riff even more when you get to hear it again three seconds later

For years, the public has called them "fake artists." But internally at Spotify, the program has a name: Perfect Fit Content. My investigation, and the first look into my book Mood Machine, is the January cover at @harpers.bsky.social. Online now & on newsstands next week harpers.org/archive/2025...

Cover of the january 2025 issue of Harper's magazine. A black background with the words GHOST MUSIC written largely in green, tangled with wired headphones. underneath in small text it says "INSIDE SPOTIFY'S FAKE-ARTIST SCHEME"

Is there any way to pre-schedule YouTube comments? I've got to get "who's listening to this in 2025?" on several thousand songs at midnight on new year's day.

I've played guitar for a long time, and I think I understand how to make most sounds on it. Seeing Raphael Roginski was magical to me, no idea how he does it. Sounds like 3 people, so much nuance. Bewildering and inspiring
