‘URM faculty received 7% more negative votes & were 44% less likely to receive unanimous votes from P&T committees. A double standard in how scholarly productivity is rewarded is also observed, with below-average h-indexes being judged more harshly for URM faculty than for non-URM faculty.’

When we examined public perceptions of queer me-searchers studying anti-queer bias, we found a double bind: queer researchers were seen as more biased, while straight researchers were seen as less informed—compared to identical researchers (queer or straight) studying unrelated topics.

In anecdotal accounts, me-searchers often acknowledge that their personal connection to the subject might introduce bias—a concern frequently raised by critics. But that same first-hand experience can also mean they’re uniquely informed and well-positioned to conduct this kind of research.

"Me-searchers" are researchers who study topics that are personally relevant like issues affecting groups they belong to. In a recent paper, we ran three pre-registered experiments to explore how queer and straight researchers are perceived when studying anti-queer bias and related topics.

To add a p-value in #tidyplots , just do `add_test_pvalue()` Then you can decide, whether you want to compare every group to every group, or one control group to all other groups. See also jbengler.github.io/tidyplots/re...

This reflects the challenges we see on the ground for women staff, as well as the broader political and cultural backslide on gender equity
