Just reminded me, ordered through Rye Books in East Dulwich.

Cover of Tom Cox’s book “Everything Will Swallow You “

Ok, having had to spend some long journeys out east on the Central Line, am I the only one to discern some letters adding up to a 3 letter word in this moquette? I’m pretty sure the designer had a mischievous streak.

I think this was the view of more than the media. Having only ever voted Labour at a general election, the vote I cast in 2024 was my most reluctant and driven by GTTO. I doubt I was in anyway alone. Even Johnson had the sense to acknowledge “borrowed votes. Labour was too arrogant to realise this.

I asked Google and here is what it told me:

They’re symmetrical so I guess it’s a case of where the chin rest goes. Apart from being a leftie myself, it was seeing Cary Grant in Indiscreet that got me on to looking out for them. Imagine the chaos it’d cause in an orchestra?!

Le Corbusier tried something similar at Firminy.

It is. It might feel a bit Disney but it is a genuine attempt to understand and recreate Roman methods of construction. Before you get to the house itself there are a few mock-ups of roofing and walls. Definitely worth a visit.

Have you checked out the replica Roman villa at the Newt in Somerset?

Also hate the expression though I am occasionally professionally obliged to use it. Always brings this sort if thing to mind.

Not quite a jib door but actual stone louvre doors.

Check this out. Aluminium card carrier, by Secrid. Up to six cards. Wouldn’t go back to traditional wallets.

3 of these 4 priorities will turbocharge climate change. Looks like growth at any cost. It’ll be interesting to see how her plan to impose a limit of one judicial review on any government decision will work out.

Ditched R4 Today a few years ago in favour of R5Live. But I’ve noticed it turning in the same direction recently. Hope it’s the exception but one morning last month I was prompted to send this text:

Can’t shake it. Every time I hear David Lammy on the radio.

Reminds me of this sign for Faber Castell factory in Fermoy, Co Cork (photo by Irish Examiner), a little landmark on car journeys from Dublin to Cork. Explained why our schoolboy our ostensibly German orange Columbus pencils said “Made in Ireland”.

Enjoying this, a lot. Some wonderful, evocative descriptions, so far, of places I know. Writing of Bloomsbury, there’s a reference to Yeats and “the living and the dead” that prompted a “no, that’s Joyce”, followed by the thought that that little barb was purposely left for pedants like me.

You’ve just reminded me of this hairdressing salon in Camden Town, London, from back in the day.

You’ve reminded me of this little fishing boat spotted in Youghal, Co Cork.

Name on a fishing boat: “The Cod’s Pollocks”.

Not everywhere. Here’s a scheme in Greenwich that I was involved in.

Taken from not so far away. Even after 40 years away it’s still home.

Quite challenging, if this Wikipedia page is correct. Looks like a constitutional prohibition, not an opt-out, if EU establishes common defence. Not having a proper national defence force or arms industry looking very short sighted at the moment.

From today’s Guardian. Prompted me to look up some biblical takes on keeping company, given Trump appeared to have got religion on the campaign trail. 1 Corinthians: Do not be deceived: bad company ruins good morals. Proverbs: The violent plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them.
