Sympathy for Burnham's hand-wringing over Russian interference in the #Brexit referendum is somewhat lessened by the recollection that his predecessor explicitly asked Russia to interfere in ours. www.heraldscotland.com/news/1314005...

33yrs ago the New York Times published an article criticising Federico Fellini and other foreign language films — calling them "hard work". MARTIN SCORSESE sent this in response.

NASA picture of the day today is a real 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿beauty! This is a composite image of the ~5000yo Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis. The amazing Giuseppe Petricca has only gone and photographed the Sun at noon there, every few days, for a whole year. #Dedication 🔭🧪👌 ℹ️: science.nasa.gov/image-articl...
The imposing Callanish Stones stand talk with their shadows spanning out across the glass. It's a super clear sky, but looks cold. Above the central stone is a strange figure-of-8 shape of dots. This is the location of the Sun, at noon, on various different days across the year.

Deeply saddened by the news of Dolly Parton’s death. In Scotland, her Imagination Library inspired a love of reading and provided thousands of free books for children. Her warmth, generosity and her music were truly one of a kind. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

Watched the BBC doc about Glasgow on iPlayer. A few observations. Framed as investigative journalism, the voyeuristic and judgemental reality is clear from the outset. We start with a rendition of "I Belong to Glasgow", which is famously sung from the perspective of a drunk man

Failed politicians shouldn't become unelected, unaccountable law makers for the rest of their lives. This is a fundamental principle of democracy. The House of Lords is a relic long past its sell by date.
Abolish the Lords. The words are over an image of Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar.

Scottish soft-power strategy: give up on the football, and just pick a random world city every couple of years and send ten thousand folk in kilts to win hearts by drinking all their beer and putting things on top of other things. I don't understand _why_ it works, but the evidence is compelling.

Some initial thoughts on the SNP's historic fifth election victory, the record Scottish Green performance, the highest ever pro-indy majority in Holyrood and the gracelessness of the Scottish press who with Labour and the Tories are the big losers. weegingerdug.wordpress.com/2026/05/09/m...
