2/2 A lot of social media activity gives the impression of a bullying campaign with Ireland as whipping boy when far less has been deployed against countries with far more economic or diplomatic clout such as 🇪🇸 or 🇳🇴. It would be nice to see 🇮🇪 get a little backing from some of those countries

1/2 Here's a 🧵on the nonsense that Ireland was some kind of sinister antisemitic outlier in playing football against Nazi Germany in 1935, when the team representing Hitler's regime was receiving the same kind of shameful reception across Europe

My time in this world is very likely to come to an end in the coming days - although I'll keep trying to push it out a bit. Huge thanks to my old friend @gavinsblog.bsky.social for these kind words and appeal on behalf of my family. Love each other. Be kind

This means a lot coming from the big bro I took my earliest lessons in values from. I have an amazing family, and now there's a young generation that will carry those values after I'm long gone

My favourite part of this is that Ireland's weather is so shite that yes, it rains indoors
AI-generated image of a woman seated at a piano. It is raining outside - and also apparently inside as rain falls in the light of a lamp.

Important distinction. The culture of obsequious compliance in US political media is crucial to the impunity the regime enjoys

4/4 The club has its centenary in 2028. I've no doubt we'll be celebrating that back - and competitive - in the Premier Division. If you've never heard of us, or even Sligo, come along for a visit to the historic Showgrounds, with its backdrop of the myth-shrouded Benbulben & Knocknarea mountains

3/4 I look toward the future with confidence and optimism. A restructuring is aimed at attracting and making possible fresh investment, while in Darren Purse we have a coach with a track record at Cardiff of developing young talent, with an academy that has turned out a series of excellent players

2/4 The past few seasons have seen it become increasingly difficult to compete with the resources of other clubs. But the Bit o' Red have come through bigger challenges. We - & I feel justified in saying we, as a shareholder in the Sligo football and Sport Development Society - will be back

1/4 Another defeat means relegation is inevitable for my beloved Sligo Rovers. A run in the top flight that goes back to 2005 would be impressive enough for the fan-owned club. But it also included a spell that brought a league title, 3 FAI Cups, a League Cup & a Setanta Sports Cup

I picked up some value a couple of years ago when mirrorless came out and people decided their lightly used DSLRs were suddenly no good - and even their lenses. That only needed a cheap adapter. Got a D780 for a relative pittance - it's full-frame and the low-light performance is superb

This isn't doing a lot to dispel the idea that when Trump regime people visit Moscow, they're just there to get instructions from their handlers. Make America great again? Make America Putin's lapdog

It does but, with the camera on high-speed burst at 5-10 shots per second, the photographer will have other moments where Trump looks happy and comfortable. Photo desk editors will routinely choose a photo on the basis of how well it illustrates or represents the mood of the accompanying article

From this side of the world it's bizarre to see the regime send out a representative who was elected by nobody - and the supposed "opposition" obsequiously accept this person as a legitimate interlocutor. The US is badly broken and the Democratic party doesn't look like it's capable of fixing it

When I started to take digital photography seriously I suddenly switched to Nikon after years of Canon. As an amateur, changing systems meant you were looking for value for money, particularly in glass. The D70 came bundled with what's sold way short by calling it a "kit lens". Never looked back

Yep. I also have a longstanding objection to the idea of a photo showing "exactly..." Anyone with the slightest interest in photography knows that a difference of a tiny fraction of a second between when two frames were captured can convey an entirely different message

One thing I find funny about criticisms of Bluesky (and other social platforms) are the descriptions of a "bubble). I'm here to share news and ideas with people I find pleasant and/or interesting. When I go to the pub I don't feel bound to listen to every boring and/or offensive prick in the place
