I think an important thing to remember with the commentary is everything said is not serious. If you see 'character hate' it's actually light hearted and joking, many phrases and words are reached for quickly and maybe not the right ones. It's not a well planned interview but a fun talk with friends

I think it’s because, as you say, Viv’s work doesn’t belittle or sacrifice one for the other. Both are done with the same care There can be big contrasts in tone in the same work, but it feels cohesive. The shifts can be a bit jarring sometimes, but it doesn’t feel dissonant

One of the reasons I was drawn to Viv’s art back in the day, was that it unabashedly has both wholesomeness and edginess side by side and doesn’t treat them as contradictions, that have to be kept apart in seperate works Lots of people call it ‘tonal dissonance’, but I don’t feel that?

Something I’ve noticed about Viv’s art is that it seems to always straddle the line between wholesome and edgy without belittling or completely sacrificing one for the other. If you’ve watched her creative progression as long as I have you start to get a feel for it.
