The only way to explain it to her: "In the US the object is profit, not health. When the govt pays, it needs to find best value. Hospital beds cost is $1000/day and preventative medicine keeps us out of hospital. Hence the free stuff at scale is better value than overloading the expensive stuff."

Back in Aus, my American partner cannot believe our system: govt picks up the tab on medicines, the $7 payment is all the pharmacy fee. Shingle, flu, covid vacs - all free. Yearly blood work - free. Cancer tests - free. Specialists are $$$ but not outrageous.

When I moved to US their medical system was so crap that I flew back to Australia for a week, explained to my Aus doctor and he loaded me up with all the pills and potions I needed, pretty much cost free. The return airfare was less than the outrageous bloated hassle / copays.

Fun diversion: a ruzzian euphemism for 'queue' is коса. It means braid (of hair), plait, pigtail... Funny coz the traditional Ukranaian hairstyle - Oseledets (long pigtail) is why ruzzians call them khokhol 'crests' (derogatory), but who are now causing those petrol queues. Laughing at you ruzzia!
