my stance on fantasy vs sci-fi is that i think these are aesthetic labels that have gotten so broad that they're barely informative at all. the real slop genre is orc fiction. if there's an archetypal "orc species," a nuance-free inherently evil group of morally uncomplicated enemies, it's slop.

like, I don’t think it’s had much of any effect other than making microsoft a bunch of money. as far as game design, minecraft kicked off the entire genre of survival crafting games, but that wasn’t microsoft’s doing. overall minecraft under microsoft has incredibly boring game design
