Two years ago, I dreamt a story scene unlike anything I'd ever read (and, after much Googling, I haven't found much similar). I've been fiddling around with ideas for it, building up mythos and background, even writing a prologue that would lay out the general points, but nothing quite felt right.

The next World Cup will probably be expanded to 64 teams. If any small nations need players, just know that I am willing and able. Additionally, I have semi-professional experience: I played for my high school team and was labelled as 'pretty good, if apathetic'.

I've learned that the VC of my alma mater, University of York, is leaving for greener pastures down south. He leaves behind massive debt, a literal sinking campus, hundreds of disgruntled staff with increasing workloads, and a massive hole in the ground. Good luck, Southampton.

Friendly warning for research academics out there: Web of Science, Ebsco, ProQuest, and other databases now use AI search functions instead of keywords/Boolean search strings. This means that any search string you used before they incorporated AI is meaningless. You get 100x irrelevant results.

There will be an AI art section in a museum someday, where robotic patrons will marvel at humanity's attempt to force AI to express itself.

The word "ruthless" implies that, at some point, having many ruths made a person quite genial.

I loved Rental Family. Brendan Fraser nails the kind, lonely, yet vulnerable role with quiet aplomb and charm. The movie itself excels through a calm and personal narrative, weaving in how each of the characters ties into the idea that personal connection can be sold, but it must be genuine.

Bone Temple was exemplary. Brutal and beautiful simultaneously. It's hard to convey how much the film sticks with you after without giving too much away, but it is the perfect presentation of how thematic parallels can be written. It is both intimate and grand. Give it a look.

Sometimes I listen to the theme from The Search for Spock to remind myself that all I need to revitalise my life is a newborn planet on which to dump my decaying body and a friend in which to dump my katra. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxgS...

The danger of Lidl selling packs of seaweed snacks for 75p each is in realising I've spent over £20 on something that I ate in ten minutes.

The only good part of being ill are the viscerally intense dreams that feel like they're directed by David Lynch.

Suno is a site that lets you generate 'music' using its AI algorithm. It's improved by leaps and bounds since it started months ago, where its song structuring was questionable, at best. What's worse, the songs it can now generate off a simple prompt are actually good. suno.com/song/93f4d5b...

On the train, I overheard a man mention his friends were 'writing' ebooks using AI and making a profit off them. While crap literature has been a feature of the ebook world, it involved an element of human creativity. AI-generated stories excise the soul of a story.
