Once I'm through this weekend I might try a full scale print of my model of Jayce's corrupt hammer! Even if it doesn't print well I'm really proud of this first attempt at using Blender, let alone trying to bring a prop this complicated to life irl

Like even with a different studio involved I should still recognize the world. I do want to give the new studio the benefit of the doubt too but the storyboard framing choices and lack of physicality we're seeing in the few trailer clips isnt helping matters. I hope it's just these specific scenes.

At a fundamental level I wouldn't look at this screenshot with the MCs and think Avatar and that's a major issue with a franchise that had such a recognizable visual identity. Even if the explanation is something like "there are no more nations bc of plot reason" we've just gone SO generic????

I think the appeal of the original series & Korra was how much was inspired by real martial arts, cultures, locations and creatures. Plus each of the nations had a unique visual identity. Take that away, even for a narrative reason, and you could just be left with generic elemental magic show.

Just based on the trailer I'm worried the new Avatar series leans TOO fantastical to the point it doesn't feel any weight in the worldbuilding of the franchise at all. And maybe that's the point of it, but they REALLY need to stick the landing of such a pivot and I'm not very confident.

I've really paired down a lot of things during this move but when it comes to crafting/art I hold on until I have to acknowledge that a product is long expired. Like I finally tossed printmaking paint from UNDERGRAD! Wintersession 2009! ☠️ Girl that stuff was DEAD AS A DOORNAIL!!

you know, between training my puppy, sewing cosplay patterns, teaching myself blender to create props, exercising, networking/interviewing, and trying to draw again bc a former coworker asked if I'd ever be interested in doing professional illustration but I've only done pinch art the past 6 years
