I can’t get over how dumb their take is here. The insurance industry, for good or (definitely) ill, runs on the fact that some people pay more than they take. If you remove that lynchpin it all collapses. Which, a win I guess? Another 760,000 people clamoring for universal healthcare?

Not a dad but same. I have three Patagonia Black Hole duffels. They mostly hold camping/hiking gear but even if I’m traveling with traditional luggage I still pack one in case I need an extra bag on a return trip for dirty clothes, purchases, etc.

I didn’t get local networks. I reminded my friend of that. He said “doesn’t matter, pick a channel” and I think he hung up right after. I was only 19 and the concept of surrealism hadn’t been a part of my psyche. It certainly was after that day.

I tell this story because it reflects the weird callousness of early aught youth. I had just laid down after a midnight shift at a government contract job. My coworker called and says “probably won’t have work tonight“ and said turn on the TV. At the time I lived in a rural area with satellite TV.

I use a Synology NAS that comes with software called Drive. That syncs like Dropbox but the storage itself is on prem. For a simpler solution I use Syncthing. That is p2p so no centralized storage but syncing requires at least one machine be accessible over the internet. I use Tailscale for access.

It’s amazing to me that this was ever a justification “on the books”. I assumed this was just carelessness and lack of enforcement - instead it was a codified prioritization of property over humans. Glad we’re working to fix the law, next let’s enforce it.

This is peak both sides bullshit, because bike lane opponents don't care about "creating safe streets for everyone." They care about parking and being able to speed. And they draw false equivalences between drivers and bikers that car-brained pundits like Joan Venocchi lap up eagerly. Such garbage.

What should not be lost in the emotion of the moment is the need for balance and openness to different points of view when it comes to creating safe streets for everyone. The perception that both were lacking under Wu gave Kraft an opportunity on the bike lane issue. While he was never able to capitalize on it beyond the loud cheers he got for mentioning it at his announcement, he did force Wu to acknowledge there is more than one side to the bicycle lane debate. It’s the side of businesses that say they lose customer parking spaces to bike lanes as well as the side of pedestrians who dodge people on bicycles, e-bikes, and scooters who ignore red lights and other rules of the road.

I’ve done it at home a couple times but since it’s free I don’t feel obligated to keep it up. I haven’t done it in groups because I’m VERY sweaty and have a hard time remembering to breathe when exercising. I’d just want to feel no judgement, encouragement, and gentle reminders on breath.
