Writing with bestie is one of my fave things to do! ✨ We argue "Tim McGraw" gave us the confessional songwriting, the close fan engagement, the all-American girl persona, & the use of borrowed cultural capital. But we also wanted to name the whiteness & class privilege as the invisible default.

I’ve been woefully inconsistent with BlueSky but just logged in & realized I had to update my bio from “precarious academic” to “academic @ unimelb” as I vvvv thankfully secured an ongoing position in media & communications back in July 🥹

In this paper we ‘work over’ and ‘mull over’ research experiences that did not (immediately) make sense. As feminist researchers, we explore our emotional, embodied reactions to specific moments an...

Hi friends, our Taylor Swift book is officially out & we have two book launches in August. One is in Melbourne at Readings Emporium (www.readings.com.au/events/taylo...), & one is online (events.humanitix.com/taylor-swift...). Both are free, but bookings are essential. We'd love to see people there!

I gotta say, it doesn’t get much better than a dog dozing on your legs while you read a good book in bed 😌
A grey and white whippet with their head propped on legs (under a doona) on a bed. In the foreground there’s a red book (theory & practice).

It’s obscene what a lovely peaceful day it is here as lsraeI is again slaughtering Gazans with bombs that require Australian-made parts, as the Western political establishment does nothing, the Western media pretend there’s a ceasefire, & people are getting fired & jailed for opposing it

JP’s substack on leaving X today is 😚👌🏻 “..because Elon Musk is an annoying dweeb, and I simply find X too tacky to continue with… the whole thing feels slimy now… all these things feel downstream of Musk’s slime trail… like things that came directly from him scooting his ass across the platform.”

I just landed back in Melbourne after a wonderful week in the Gold Coast for the AWGSA conference, ‘Courageous Feminisms’. This was a special one as I was lucky enough to do the programming with the incredible A/Prof Kathomi Gatwiri who is AWGSA’s outgoing president and has left an incredible legacy

In the midst of marking season, I am getting so much joy from reading the reflective journals of my first-year gender studies students. They're full of big and small reckonings, loud and quiet activism. It gives me hope 🥹
