Emma Vitz @emmavitz.bsky.social · 13/11/2023Now that the 2023 NZ election is over, I looked at the relationship between donations and votes, and found an unexpected trend in who receives most of their money from large donations thespinoff.co.nz/politics/14-...thespinoff.co.nzDid donations translate into votes in the 2023 election? For each vote it received, one party had just under $20 in its coffers. Another banked not much more than a dollar per vote. 5203
Emma Vitz @emmavitz.bsky.social · 05/11/2023Glad you liked it. Insurance affordability IS a problem (actually a pretty big one in Australia and one that's getting worse) but it's a symptom, not the real problem, which is risk. You have to solve the underlying problem, not just the symptom. 160

Emma Vitz @emmavitz.bsky.social · 19/10/2023Hard to say but a hard RI market is a big factor that is impacting insurance prices globally. It's also pretty easy for reinsurers to diversify away NZ catastrophe risk (compared to, say, Florida) so arguably we might be less impacted by the impact of natural disasters on RI than other countries 030
Emma Vitz @emmavitz.bsky.social · 19/10/2023I think this is true for earthquake but not other perils like flood, where we are arguably a bit behind than other countries. And it's not just about understanding the risk for EQ, its's also about the impact of EQC offering cover to everyone at fairly affordable prices 040
