Definitely, unintentionally, managed to make Ryan Gosling look less attractive but not bad for my first gouache painting that’s not just an abstract scene. First time drawing/painting a person in forever too. Should probably do something that’s not Project Hail Mary related at some point too…

So fixated with Project Hail Mary (still) that I painted a canvas to be a backdrop to my Lego set – which is just the coolest Lego set by the way. It rotates! And little Grace and Rocky are adorable.

I saw/heard Brandon Sanderson give a talk at MCM Comic Con, London, yesterday and it was worth braving the crowds and the heat. Better even than I was expecting. 🤩

I’m not really a film person but thanks to Project Hail Mary I have decided that I’m a Ryan Gosling person now. Join me on Letterboxd as I work through his filmography… or something? (I’ve watched/reviewed four so far.) boxd.it/kdT2t

Still incredibly inspired by Project Hail Mary – I've seen the film three times now (IMAX last night!) and have re-read the book in the last few weeks. I've been channeling my inspiration into physical art. It's been fun and I love how colourful gouache paints are.

I lasted three days after seeing the Project Hail Mary film before I gave in to the urge to create fan art. Fan art specifically of best boy Rocky. This is supposed to be a movie poster but I've made it square for Bluesky.

The reason it’s a rainbow is because I also made ‘shelves’ for each month and the backdrop is a different colour to go with the season.

As if I didn’t buy enough books at Thought Bubble… Popped into @cecomicsuk.bsky.social for some Christmas prezzies, came home with these two for myself as well. 😅

Usagi Yojimbo is SO good! Just finished Book 4 in the ‘Saga’ and it was definitely the best yet. I love tales of samurai and traditional Japanese mythology / folklore, so combining that with this lovable rabbit ronin is just the perfect read for me. Emotional ending too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In 2017 the last book in the last series, Assassin’s Fate, was released and although I didn’t meet Hobb myself I did get a signed copy of the book when she did a signing in MK This is the only physical RotE book I have, apart from the graphic novels, so it’s pretty special that it’s signed to me.

My Realm Of The Elderlings re-read is complete and I'm pondering how long I should leave it until I start all over again. No one does characters like Robin Hobb does and no other books make me feel all the emotions that these do, especially the ones with Fitz and the Fool. I love them so much…

September reading stats. 📚 I think this is the lowest count for non-‘picture’ books I’ve read in a month, with only two here. But what excellent two books they are! I was really trying to finish book three as well but it’s a long trilogy (Fitz and the Fool by Robin Hobb).

Feeling tired and lazy after two gigs/late nights in a row so rather than doing anything overly productive today I’ve drawn my new DnD character… who is so new that I haven’t actually played them yet. Meet Ivy.

Ivy the halfling druid. She has auburn hair which is shaved on the left side, with a little plait, and unruly curls on the right. She has green eyes and freckles. She’s wearing green and brown, including an Ivy leaf broach.

I finished reading All The Colours Of The Dark by Chris Whitaker last night and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it all day. It was way out of my comfort zone of sci-fi & fantasy but it ticked all the boxes: captivating, gripping, emotional, dark, memorable characters… Highly recommend it!

I guess it’s not all that surprising that I’d enjoy a Japanese-themed graphic novel but, even so, this was really good. Love the kind of post-apocalyptic Japanese theme park setting and silent but honourable samurai robots. Looking forward to Book 2 later in the year.
