These products are designed to generate outputs that outwardly mimic human processes. The language used to market them is designed to make it *seem* as if they have become "human-like." You are mistaking marketing hype for fact, which illustrates exactly why more honest language is called for.

We have no direct accounts of Jesus’s life or sayings, but the love and care stuff is all over the gospels so yeah, at the very least it appears to reflect what early Christians understood his teachings to be.

@andrewmarkhenry.bsky.social's video about the Sea Peoples presents some interesting nuance, in that it sometimes seems to have become a rather vague "bad guy" category that could be used as a scare tactic or justify militarism etc. youtube.com/watch?v=q9jq... Maybe this is what Wilson means?

I guess I don't necessarily think empathy is something people should have to earn. At the same time, obviously not every reply is made in good faith, and I think it's probably a waste of time to give time and attention to the ones that aren't.

FWIW I think Stancil's heart is probably basically in the right place (or at least he intends for it to be?) but the other night I saw him reacting to that cartoon by saying that he thinks some people exaggerate their poverty for clout. And then wondering why he gets so much pushback. 🫠

The target of the humor is the (real or perceived) lack of empathy & apparent inability/unwillingness to code switch when the situation calls for a different kind of response, not necessarily the method or mode of analysis.

Emily Pothast @emilypothast.bsky.social · 21/07/2026
At risk of joining the fray, I think the joke is more about what is perceived as a lack of empathy when people who pride themselves on their grasp of data can't or won't switch out of "Bloodless Quant" mode when confronted with suffering that is no less real when it doesn't line up with trends.

I lived in Seattle from 2003 to 2019. Summer in Seattle used to be unbelievably beautiful. It made the long, dark, wet winters worth enduring. Around 2017 we started having weeks of wildfire smoke every summer that made it hazardous to go outside. Words cannot express what has already been lost.

Earlier this year, as I watched how Hacks handled the 50th anniversary of Deborah Vance’s fictional sitcom, I kept thinking about Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, which turned 50 this year, and the unparalleled, unsung genius of its star Louise Lasser. emilypothast.substack.com/p/rememberin...

Remembering Louise Lasser, star of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman
As a kid I was endlessly fascinated by the kind of vintage TV shows that aired on Nick at Nite and TV Land: the way they held a warped mirror to an everyday world which was already no longer with us.

Same. Do you know the cause? We called PG&E and apparently there was a pole that caught fire (I assume due to fireworks) and had to be replaced. The amount of time it's taking is unreal!

Ah, thanks for the background. I should not have said "originated"; it makes sense that it has an even deeper history. It is pretty wild to see how contentious it has become!

The first time I heard that phrase was when I toured a West Bank settlement & a settler told us that the entire land belonged to Israel, "from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea." I later learned that this slogan had originated from the Likud platform. This is important context, no?
