It’s *interesting* to read that six days ago the Trump admin told a federal judge it was working to “facilitate” Ahmed Soliman’s return to the US…then watch ICE removal planes fly right by the island where he’s being held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and probably again tonight. www.npr.org/2026/10/09/g...
The Trump administration on Friday said it has started to facilitate the return to the U.S. of an Egyptian man who was deported to Equatorial Guinea, in a rare case of the government working to reverse a third-country deportation.
A federal judge in Arizona earlier this week ordered the Department of Homeland Security to return Ahmed Soliman to the U.S. from the country in central Africa where he has no ties, and respond how it plans to do SO.
The administration said it is working
"collaboratively" with Soliman's lawyers to find and contact him, and is "beginning the process to facilitate" his return, according to Friday's filings in the case from Timothy Courchaine, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona. An FR24 map showing N700KW fly right by Malabo on the evening of October 13.An FR24 map showing N62FF fly past Malabo over mainland Africa on Wednesday evening An FR24 map showing N352BH flying over the middle of the Atlantic Ocean toward Dakar, Senegal. I have drawn a dotted line across the continent in red toward its expected destination (Kenya) to show that it is probably going to fly right past Malabo as well.

The NYPD just released surveillance video of the ICE shooting (which occurred off camera). Two men in civilian clothes run up to a car with guns drawn. One second later, one man begins smashing the butt of his gun into the driver’s side window. The driver appears to panic and hit the gas.

Still, attorneys hope the judge's ruling represents a potential legal pathway for all U.S. deportees sent to Equatorial Guinea to finally return to the U.S. "I'm hopeful, because it's one of the only hopes that we have," Olo Fernandes said.

It's unclear if Soliman's release was a response to the U.S. judge's Oct. 6 order. Attorney Lucas Olo Fernandes said it's more likely that international media attention to the case, first reported by the Star in August, is having an impact, plus pressure from human-rights groups.

DHS has 30 days to appeal the ruling. Once home, Soliman would still face the possibility of being removed to another third country. But under the judge's order, DHS can't deport Soliman to another third country before giving him the chance to raise a fear claim before a judge.

The U.S. has AGAIN sent people to a foreign country where they get imprisoned. This time, it’s to get around laws barring the deportation of people who face persecution/torture in their home countries. The U.S. gets paper-thin assurances that the below won't happen, which it knows will be ignored.
Three people deported from the U.S. to Equatorial Guinea - including a Phoenix man whose family fled Egypt when he was 4 - told the Arizona Daily Star their lives are in danger at the hotel. All agreed to have their full names published, despite the risks to their safety in speaking out.
In a recent late-night incident, all three say they were dragged from their rooms at gunpoint, handcuffed, assaulted and threatened by armed men guarding the decommissioned Hotel Bamy.
"They said if we leave the hotel grounds, they will shoot us and bury us across the street," said Peta-Gaye Chambers, 35, whose parents brought her to the U.S. from Jamaica when she was 5. A U.S. immigration judge granted Chambers "withholding of removal" to her home country of Jamaica in 2013, agreeing she'd face persecution there.
