Yep. That does really suck, and I'm sorry. I wish people weren't all going to look at Flora and make that judgment, because nothing she said wasn't things cis women say because it's how women approach this, it's just the miserable fucking reality of being a trans woman, and y'all deserve better.

Um, this is unfair to cavemen, cavemen were waaaaaay more respectful (read "fucking afraid") of the women in their lives then modern men are. Cavewomen were physically fit and they all carried hatchets and spears and they knew where your sleeping mat was in the communal dwelling.

it's also why they implicitly don't think pedophilia is that bad, how can a child's capacity to consent be much different than an adult woman when neither of them have the sentience testosterone gives you?

I volunteer as ambassador to crows. I actually got in a fight with my mom lately because she didn't want me feeding them because their mobbing behavior makes her anxious and I said "they live here, too, they have a roost tree a few streets over, they're good neighbors, and I wanna make friends."

That's pretty typical. The web devs themselves trying to explain a problem to the bosses who are very much Not Listening. Reasons we should not have bosses and companies should instead be worker owned and run.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the jankier models. They actually output something that had a uniqueness to it that has been sanded away for a cleaner, more marketable product. Which isn't what I want, I want to see the finger monstrosities.

As someone caught between the genders, I personally feel an extremely miserable amount of both rage and responsibility, and holy fuck, between this, the Cornell 7, and shit in my personal life, I'm osscillating between wanting to scream in rage and sob in despair.

The men responding feel a lot more clarity at simply being able to hate Geller and absolve themselves of any responsibility to him, even though men are the ones who most enable to behavior of male rapists. Men get angry about rape, but then do nothing, while women fret over what to do in futility.

Mx. Dizzy — Human Generated Em Dash @emexdizzy.bsky.social · 3h
This is especially true of a trans woman, as trans women often feel a much greater pressure to "prove" their womanhood, forget the necessity to take up space because that's a behavior so unfairly coded as male. That's not to say "don't criticize Flora" just do it in light of all that.

...psychological hell for similar "was endangered but made emotionally responsible". "What do we do with men who hurt women?" is such a woman question to ask. It's always on women to manage men's behavior, including their own rapist, and women often take on that responsibility for society.

Does the article contribute to the unhealthy idea of a rapist's rehabilitation? Yes. Are people using Flora's article to try and absolve Geller? Also yes. At the same time... fuck, I can't disclose too many details here... women, including trans women, are often left to bear a lot of the emotions...

It's not a great article. I really don't like it, but my biggest caution yelling at Flora is that we never know what a woman's history with sexual assault is. I would hate to go to hard on any one individual woman who might end up self-outing her trauma by pitting her against "victims" broadly.

...from a more humane source. Right now, most veganism is prohibitively expensive as our society runs on churning the bodies of living, breathing, thinking beings into foodstuffs so cheap we toss it in the garbage for the scavengers to pick over. That system needs to die for animals to live well.

These birds could only be bought and then left to die because these living animals are already so heavily devalued in the machinery of meat-manufacture. There is so much meat being made and wasted, meat beyond our need, that meat-animals can simply be turned to living garbage, cheap and disposable.

Nobody five centuries ago would EVER have just abandoned an entire wagon-load of chickens to suffer. They would've been loosed to the field, or killed and eaten by the hungry, but today, the fields are asphalt, and a chicken's life and body are shamefully inexpensive commodities we freely waste.

Mx. Dizzy — Human Generated Em Dash @emexdizzy.bsky.social · 4h
...which is then slaughtered and the meat donated to the poor. This *used* to be a valuable lesson in death and sacrifice and charity in pre-industrial times, as a chicken's body WAS a costly food source, and its death and donation genuinely fed the hungry. That's not true any longer.

Meat is an unfortunate necessity. I keep two species obligate carnivores. One of my cats will only tolerate a certain brand of animal-based food, and my python can only eat whole carcasses. Even if I was able to go fully vegan myself, I can't force that on the living things I'm responsible for...

Instances like these are a reason I am so opposed to consumption-centric veganism. You SHOULD be reducing your consumption of animal products for your health, the health of the environment, the planet as a whole, and to reduce animal cruelty, but your abstaining from meat alone is NOT enough.

This thing is kind of stupid, but this yellow scarf with abs is far more sentient than any computer, we're just so vain about our own species traits and tendencies that we assume verbiage = intelligence = consciousness.

"The computer program made words, it must be sentient" drives me nuts because of how anthropo-centric it all is. I have a three foot long muscular tubesock with a peanut for a brain, she can't talk, she can't even hear, but she has an internal reality. LLMs don't.

Gawd, it's been so fucking hard. Woman I know IRL just had a terrifying brush with a man who tried to assault her, and it's been a helluva time. Women deserve a safe world, so that's gotta be the goal, keeping women safe/promoting healing, and you can't lose sight of it in the rage.

And to be clear, I, too, believe in prison abolition generally, I think prisons, especially what we have, do NOTHING for society, but being an abolitionist overall doesn't mean we never have solutions to deal with people willing to violate the bodies of others, it just can't be a concrete hole.

Mx. Dizzy — Human Generated Em Dash @emexdizzy.bsky.social · 21h
You start with "we made this a felony because it's severe" and so long as you maintain that rape is a horrific crime without excuse, we can start to shift to "alight, he ruined a woman's life, so now what do we do with men like this?" *I* don't want to, but it doesn't mean nobody can nor should.
120
Mx. Dizzy — Human Generated Em Dash @emexdizzy.bsky.social · 21h
We should not be talking about fixing the justice system for Jacob Geller's sake, because fuck him, we don't need pity for a man who hurts women to be the driver, but it's also *unequivocally* true that the current system we have is bad for women and doesn't fix the horrors of violent misogyny.
120
Mx. Dizzy — Human Generated Em Dash @emexdizzy.bsky.social · 21h
I, too, am really fed up with "forgive the rapist" discourse, but there's a difference between people who are actively making shitty arguments like this isn't a felony sex crime, and survivors in dismay going "what the actual fuck are we ever gonna do?" and acknowledging the justice system is ass.
