I love what you consider the “big things.“ Have you foresworn your own kind as many in Silicon Valley seem to have done?

Most economics departments teach conservative economics. Hire an economist and you likely get at least a neolib.

I have a roll of toilet paper and printed on each sheet are paragraphs of "$h*t" written by David Brooks. I treasure it.

These subtleties would undercut the clarity of some of these posters’ self-righteousness, which is their single aim, the rush felt by their singular specialness.

Right if you have a car or affordable transit, time, and some extra money. For most Americans, this isn’t a reasonable response.

Really? The draconian state laws that force women to carry unwanted/dangeorous/or already failed pregnancies at the risk of life. If you don’t know about the rise of mortality in red states, including via ectopic pregnancies, you have some reading to do.

Yes there is a solid 20-25% of Americans who are fully Fascist in their belief systems. I suspect same worldwide.

I am simply making the point that generational categories mean nothing and therefore no evidentiary conclusions can be drawn. I have no opinion about family breakups and who is to blame.

emalma.bsky.social @emalma.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
That is obvious but he didn’t say anything about income. He characterized an entire group of people without evidence. I don’t see how he proved anything, I think casting Gen Z as this way or that is also silly.

emalma.bsky.social @emalma.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
“That generation” talks down? sounds like your frustration/resentment isn’t that much different from those Trump voters who scapegoat immigrants because they don’t have what they want in life. Sure some older people don’t get it—but this just sounds like prejudice.

emalma.bsky.social @emalma.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Do you have anything remotely like “evidence“ in this claim? The preposterous and largely fake deployment of generational categories (when does one end and another begin and why?) gets us nowhere. Boomers act this way, Late Gen X too. Silly argument, sorry.

Of course learn economics! but don’t think it is a key to all mythologies like ”human nature.” Much prefer his stock picks over his insight into human intention, impulse and etc.

emalma.bsky.social @emalma.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Sorry strong disagree. Economics does little to explain human behavior. Becker argued for that power of economic insight into everything but his work largely shows how limited economics is in explaining humans outside of a very few market conditions. I’d prefer economists stay in their lane.

Why take it personally? Did she write you and tell you this? So irritating you doesn’t help you say—so irritating men means this will never get better? See how problematic that is??? If only women were nice and supportive then men could be stopped from raping?

I generally agree with you but this woman is seeking palliative care, succor from symptoms when the standard medical treatment would create a ragged end for her geriatric dog. Pls don’t be so harsh when she is seeing her dog suffer.

If you put Republicans in charge of the presidency, they blame Congress for their failures. If they also control Congress, they blame the courts. If they control the courts, they blame their state. If they control their state, they blame a secret shadowy deep state, NGOs & media.

My elderly dog—10.5— had Cushing’s and was cured by science/medicine not homeopathy and lived another 4 years. It is a risky treatment but if it works, it works. Is there evidence homeopathy cures? Genuine question.

Said this on another thread but: what are fraternities and sororities for? On most campuses, they are spaces outside university jurisdiction where young people's bad judgment and poor impulses (and too often mob violence) are celebrated as "the best memories of youth" by their alumni who fund them.

“a really crass way of describing a woman who was open to sex.” I like the way you read “free” as consent. Interesting.

These are competing businesses not some fraternity or brotherhood. And all the journalists who work there are just employees. This govt seeks to empty out professions as we know them so that all people are just supplicant workers.

emalma.bsky.social @emalma.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Exactly. Gotta convince people it is a broken thing because people liked it too much. Why are so many people confused by this? Policy wonks trying to explain it as policy ineptitude. Has nothing to do with policy.

Clinton & Obama's cozying up to W since 2016 has been ugly & deeply shameful. He's been totally absent in the authoritarian moment, & now he's actively stumping for it. Again, all the awful stuff keeps happening bc we never do elite accountability & haven't since at least Iran-Contra, if not 1865.

This is a genuinely terrible piece of journalism: Reporting, editing, writing, all of it. (Photos OK). Will appear alongside the word "credulous" in dictionaries. I had thought that the WaPo's news section was still "mainly good," in contrast to its laughable editorial section. But...

My eldest brother was isolated in a polio ward for months when he was 4 years old. My parents could only leave toys for him w/ nurse. He survived but others in ward either died or lived on in iron lungs. He lived a full life until post-polio syndrome shortened his life. Polio vaccines = miracles.
