Another Utrecht Sketching Community meetup, this time celebrating Utrecht Heritage Day (on September 12th). In the morning we visited Stadsklooster Utrecht in the former Antoniuskerk. In the afternoon we visited Villa Jongerius.

Ink and watercolor sketches of both locations in my sketchbook across two pages. On the left page is a sketch of Villa Jongerius in landscape orientation. It's a very rectangular white building with red accents. On the right page is a sketch of Stadsklooster Utrecht, a former Catholic church, with a focus on the tower. My sketchbook is laying on my desk at home, where I finished the sketches.

In the beginning of August I joined the Utrecht Sketching Community meetup at Castellum Hoge Woerd (Netherlands). The building is a modern interpretation of a Roman fort. It was a lovely day with fellow urban sketchers. So nice to see all the different styles, subjects, and points of views.

Ink and watercolor sketch in my sketchbook in landscape orientation across two pages. I'm holding it in my hand and in the background you can see the building I made a sketch of. The building has the shape of an old Roman fort, but has really straight lines and it's made from modern materials.

All the different sketches laid out on a table for the "show & tell".

Thanks! You should, it takes some time getting used to but it’s a lovely medium.

Thanks! The chair folds down quite small-ish, plus I have a bike bag and backpack. Yeah I would have also were it not that I live quite close by and didn’t pass a cafe 😅

At the end of August I biked to Fort Voordorp with my new folding chair and support board and made a sketch of the fort, which is part of the New Dutch Waterline.

Ink and watercolor sketch in my sketchbook in landscape orientation across two pages. It’s of a fortification with red doors, a bridge with a gate in the foreground, and trees in the background. The sketchbook lies on a support board on my lap. On the support board there's also a watercolor palette, water containers and a rag.

Same sketch in my sketchbook while it’s laying on my desk.

Ink and watercolor sketch of the water tower at the Neckardreef in Utrecht.

Ink and watercolor sketch in my sketchbook in portrait orientation across two pages. It’s of a water tower with brown bricks and a green spherical roof. “Water tower” plus “Neckardreef, Utrecht” has been hand lettered at the top. It’s dated “2026/06/28”.

Me holding up my sketchbook at the location where I sketched with the water tower in the background.

My first urban sketch. The gatehouse and former coach house at Rhijnauwen and Amelisweerd, just outside Utrecht. I finished up the line and wash painting at home.

Recently started experimenting with Line and Wash painting.

Line and Wash painting of a street in the Old Town of Alicante. A blue painted building with balconies is on the right. Based on a photo I took there. Used Micron pens and watercolor.

Line and Wash painting of another street in the Old Town of Alicante. To the left and right there are many plants and balconies. Santa Bàrbara Castle in the background. Based on a photo I took there. Used Micron pens and diluted ink in a waterbrush.

Line and Wash painting of my living room. The back wall is green and the couch is dark blue with a hint of green. There's a brown cupboard in the back, a brown coffee table, hanging plants in the top right, and a TV and record player to the right. Used Micron pens and watercolor.
