Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Might just be entirely willful ignorance dressed up in fake science to justify the bigotry, much like racial pseudoscience. He's entirely wrong about sex, and gender, and implicitly denies the existence of the latter which is pretty absurd in terms of science and reality. 020
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Also this is my first 2D art in 10+ years besides making textures so I'm entirely winging it and going with whatever ends up looking good enough 030
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Style experiments. I've realized the brush strokes and freehand imperfections are important not to imitate an analog painting but because it's a natural resolution limit. The previous image I've posted looks like it's missing detail because you can see it too clearly, this less so. 250
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 25/07/2026Something that stuck in my mind as a CS freshman was a professor telling us how there's an entire university of programs available to us, and that if studying semitic languages calls to you you need to go do that, that there is space in your degree for that. We need more of that. 140
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 25/07/2026That said this slack, by which I mean the time and opportunity for intellectual curiosity, pursuing things without specific cause, isn't totally dead. But I think it's continually reducing. 130
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 25/07/2026There's a drive to reduce the kind of slack that enables this in academia in favor of optimized programs to produce a specific set of skills. In Finland, incentives are set to cultivate this - universities get money per graduation, so their interest is getting lots of people to graduate fast. 140

Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Obviously different games have different art styles, different mechanics, balance, etc., and all this means is a system for 'ownership' of microtransaction in game 1 for a different thing in game 2. A kind of uninteresting microtransaction marketing scheme. 010
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 25/06/2026They want you to be able to buy a skin in Fortnite and use it in Call of Duty or whatever. It's the thing the NFT people advertised, and to their credit Epic did realize you can just do that without any NFT nosense. It still doesn't make a lot of sense, though. 110
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Yesss I love that they're consulting experts and not assuming realism must be uncool. Many of the original designs in these games generally shine over the movie designs because of that. 020
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 13/06/2026I sometimes wonder if it's an inherent personality difference or if there's an amount of wealth and power that tends to make anyone seek more wealth forever at any cost. I kind of think it's the latter, which makes the idea of actually being rich scary. It might break your brain. 110
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Remember when Musk said if he got an explanation of how a quoted $6.6 bil would solve world hunger he would write the check immediately, and he got given a simple explanation (just scale up existing programs), and then obviously never gave a single cent? 0140
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 07/06/2026I like how in the ocean, fish have become fish, reptiles have become fish, mammals have become fish, and then there's cephalopods. 000
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 25/05/2026There are basically three stages of life to this ship: 1. An original, much sleeker, less janky and more symmetric configuration. 2. The one I'm primarily pursuing, which is extensively retrofitted and overgrown. 3. The hot rod, which tries to turn the the second one into something leaner again. 020
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 24/05/2026Realized that if you hot rodded/Y-Winged this the front would not be wholly unlike the Taiidan missile destroyer in Homeworld. 140

Obviously these ships don't actually coexist but the An Nath is probably representative of many ships that exist in Elukka's setting as well. 25511

Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 19/04/2026..geothermal, but they tend to be location-limited, and hydro also has environmental concerns. I think the most viable emissions free energy mix for most places on Earth is nuclear baseload with as much renewables as you can get away with. 030
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Nuclear and renewables generally work better together than either of them do on their own, among zero emissions options. Wind and solar are cheap, but intermittent. To avoid hugely expensive energy storage, you want some fraction of baseload power. There is renewable baseload power, esp. hydro and.. 160
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 19/04/2026With the frigate I'm really trying to avoid that, and I'm thinking the subtler design commonalities with the cruiser as well as eventually similar detailing will be enough to tie them together despite a totally different overall silhouette. 060
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Extremely ancient Sketchup model still kinda fits with the missile cruiser? However it does have the common scifi issue where a smaller ship is basically just the same as a bigger one but differently scaled. It's kinda okay for that one because its job is to bring more missiles in a smaller package. 1192
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 17/04/2026Thanks. I need context and layers to come up with that. Who built this, why, how have circumstanced changed, what fun brainworms might be involved, etc. 030

Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 07/03/2026The best part is I was too lazy to make the text matchingly low quality to the images but the it went on a round around the internet and by the time it came back to me it was this scrunched up version that had gone through compression on a variety of sites. 010
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 06/03/2026Also I had to just do a plain link because I'm not allowed to reply to that, or, if I repost it, I'm not allowed to add any comment or even reply to it on my own timeline so it'd just look like I'm endorsing it. 010
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 06/03/2026I think it kinda sucks that someone representing Bluesky spends their time boosting AI and shitting on artists! On a site so many artists escaped to. bsky.app/profile/why.... 240
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 17/02/2026Oh we're getting there. We already had people lose their artificial eyes and return to blindness because the company pivoted to a different product and stopped support. (Argus II - apparently a new company picked it up in 2023 though. But it's down to corporate whim anyway.) 120
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 16/02/2026The thing that gets me is not just that it's AI-generated (which already sucks), but that it's clear that no human ever even glanced at it. Nobody knows if it's total nonsense. They just don't bother. Fill the page with something that looks legit. Good enough. 0100
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 19/12/2025Of course it also sucks for the final product for a variety of reasons. Man, it's almost like gen AI for art kinda sucks... 050
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 19/12/2025A go-to defense for companies using AI is "we use it for concepts, not the final product" but that's one of the worst uses for it exactly because it's a digested average that will smooth out anything distinctive or unusual. 1170
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 19/12/2025One case I ran into: Thin metal structures always deform and wrinkle a bit. On airliners it's really subtle and only really noticeable at glancing light angles. One day I looked for references and it was all AI. None of them had that detail because it's not present in most images of airliners. 1173
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 29/11/2025It might not be the biggest of the many harms they cause but it's just a beautiful cherry on top that now they're hogging all the RAM, so the prices have tripled. It's like they go out of their way to shit all over everyone else. And then they act confused when people dislike them. 030
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 24/11/2025They turned the home screen button on my phone into a Gemini button so if you press it for slightly too long you get AI and presumably are counted in metrics of AI use. 120

Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 17/08/2025I feel I have a head of unremarkable size and for me to be eight heads tall I would have to be way taller than average male height (in a country where people average relatively tall). Eight heads tall is some weird aspirational thing. 100
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 09/06/2025There isn't actually any reason I can think off why you couldn't enclose the shock absorbers of an Orion drive. This is a normal Orion setup otherwise. The things around it are a tensile structure hanging off the base thrust plate. 0151
Elukka @elukka.bsky.social · 04/06/2025@chuwol.bsky.social made this unhinged anamorphic lens stack in Blender where the lenses are raytraced to produce an image like a real camera, and rendered my ship through it. 141
