Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 25/05/2026Thank you! The second Baden battalion will look different from the first - technically 1st Bn/3rd Regt. It will represent the regiment after spending some more time in the Peninsula, which means plain shakos for the regular soldiers. 000
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 25/05/2026Their formal uniform looked different, but once they reached Spain, practicalities ensured that trousers were traded for brown or blue overalls and white shako covers were worn. This drawing by Knötel represents 1809, shortly after arrival. My figures are inspired by the Vitoria 1813 campaign. 010
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 24/05/2026Made the switch to painting 28mm Napoleonics again. The German Brigade in the Peninsula has been on my to do list for a while, and these two battalions are the first proof of eventual fruition. Frankfurters in front, by Northstar, and Badeners in the back, by Murawski. 2171
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 11/05/2026I had a whole discussion with the person who suggested changes to the Far East handbook. He proposed to lower the costs of any kind of mortar barrage to 4 points, in analogy to the rulebook. I told him that Rich would have had reasons to change the points upwards, but he didn't seem to care 🙄 110
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 11/05/2026What is your suggestion on point cost for 18" mortar barrages and 12" mortar barrages? Any difference between the two? 120

Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 31/03/2026ClogLard is mostly an excellent excuse to put Bas to work and paint a few more splendid units to fight against my Prussians. The only saving grace I have is that he can field two brigades while I can field a corps on both sides. 040
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 31/03/2026#ClogLard is a wonderful excuse to gawk at Bas de Rue's painting skills with these 18mm AB Figures French Hussars. This year he is back in 1806 hosting Rüchel's counterattack at Jena. 1293
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 02/03/2026The best Japanese player was an inexperienced player who used her IJA to aggressively move forward, while taking out any threats targeting the hill. A few double turns and beginner's luck certainly helped to avoid being overrun by Overvalwagens @bataafschecourant.bsky.social #SpreadtheLard 1150
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 02/03/2026Historically, the Australians used mortars and Vickers MMGs to clear the ridge. Most players did too, except one who used it on the IJA in their rear. 1110
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 02/03/2026Only once the IJA threat was taken care of did the allies focus on the SNLF paratroopers on the bridge. Green KNIL garrison troops turned out to have a hard time in close combat, but did better as a big squad firing at close range. 150
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 02/03/2026The Japanese mostly stood and tried using superior small weapon fire to shift the allies. This was not very successful because the allies used their positions and HE guns better, leaving the strength of the Japanese sections much diminished. 170
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 02/03/2026Objective for the Allies is to remove the roadblock and move south toward Tjamplong. The Japanese need to retain the roadblock and have the Allies surrender. In the first 3 games the initial focus of the allies was the IJA troops coming from the North, while the bridge was suppressed. 160
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 02/03/2026This was the setup for our Roadblock scenario from the Chain of Command Far East Handbook, set in Timor 1942 at #HamburgerTactica. Road from Babaoe to Oesaoe from North to South, with a bridge crossing the river Amaabi. Oesaoe ridge on the West, roadblock manned by SNLF paratroopers on the bridge. 3404
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 02/03/2026Alas, I only saw it from afar because I was too busy running my own game. I did meet one of the co-hosts from Frankfurt at the hotel. 120
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 02/03/2026Splendid work. I especially like the camo pattern (now I have tried one myself 😅). 120

Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 16/02/2026It felt a bit like sacrilege, painting a Dinky Toy ... I just couldn't be bothered gluing the Rubicon kits for Bofors and tractor, so went for 3D print and Dinky Toy instead. 120
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 16/02/2026So I thought I was done painting and weathering vehicles used by the Aussies, then found this colour photo of the camo pattern for 1941/2 😥 180

Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 19/01/2026The Timor 1942 table for #HamburgerTactica is starting to look OK. The river needs junglification, the hills will have to be smoothened and the grass made greener in spots. In the meantime, working on Eucalyptus and palm trees, plus rice paddies for the final touch. 030
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 04/01/2026To get even more into the mood for my Timor 1942 game at #HamburgerTactica, I am playing "The Whole Sad Story" with my daughter. Part of the sad story is the botched OOB, with e.g. Portuguese militia in Dutch West-Timor 🙄 It should have been the other way around! 020
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 03/01/2026They look ace with the wash. I have often found that it is all it needs to have old minis look wargame table ready again. 120
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 08/12/2025True, you can still see the original pre-WW2 red brick buildings in the Netherlands and northern Germany, and plenty of more modern versions with red, yellow or white brick. 140
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 27/11/2025Wonderful models indeed - and you did them justice. 120
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 18/10/2025Why did I ever buy these plastic figures? I get bouts of avoidism just looking at the instructions. Good thing I have some metal minis to get a proper start on my 1942 Australian Rifle platoon/Independent Company for the Timor campaign. 020

Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 03/10/2025Looks good! Reminds me I still want to have something similar for my Sharp Practice Dawns and Departures campaign plans... 120
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 01/10/2025No splendid uniforms like in Ridley Scott's Napoleon? 100
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 23/09/2025I guess I'll have to find out! I know I have gone back and forth about basing 6mm Napoleonics, before deciding I want to use big bases after all. I imagine something similar with more modern 6mm figures... 020
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 23/09/2025Those look even better in my mind. I might try to base my infantry on thin metal bases, even though that makes them harder to pick up. Tanks can then remain unbased without looking too small. 110
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 23/09/2025Will these photos appear in the next issue of a Wargames magazine? 😲 120
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 23/09/2025That does look fantastic. I have to admit that I have had GHQ tanks for years, but have never painted even one 😑 O-group was supposed to be the trigger to paint them, but my mate is doing that in 15mm... 110
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 21/09/2025Except for another timely double six by Prussian artillery firing canister - faltering the enemy brigade. 050
Eltjo Verweij @eltjov.bsky.social · 21/09/2025Didn't help much in the end. The cavalry ended up where they started and the Prussian infantry and to attack their French counterparts on their own, courtesy of a mixed infantry and cavalry brigade... The Saxon column ended up even worse. 160
