A little backyard beauty and nature to soothe the soul and distract from climate change and other worries. Need to give ourselves a break sometimes. 🧪😀

Working on an upcoming talk with @geocollaborate.bsky.social....with so much misinformation out there (intentional and unintentional), asking questions, science credibility, and building trust are more important than ever! 🧪

We're excited for this event and to have a little fun while talking about a serious topic - Combating misinformation. We need to build trust in science and scientists, questioning what you read and see is a big part of that. If you're looking for speakers and agree....get in touch! 🧪🌎

The twin towers burning is emblazoned in my memory. It brings immense sadness for all those lost, and anger at the terrorists (not Islam or Muslims). Let us learn from that day, respect and thank those who sacrificed, and live with kindness and positive purpose. Photo: Spencer Platt, Getty Images

School's about to start. Educators tell us that our book with easy to understand science-based answers with a little humor thrown in is a great resource to answer frequently asked and zany #questions about the ocean, marine life, weather phenomenon (hurricanes, lightning, etc) and climate change. 🧪📚

Shallow 7.7 magnitude earthquake off coast Indonesia. According to the USGS, "In 1992, a M7.8 earthquake occurred just 63 km east-southeast of the August 14, 2026, earthquake. The 1992 earthquake and resulting tsunami destroyed tens of thousands of homes and resulted in at least 2500 fatalities.

Sadly we had to let our beloved Willow go yesterday, doggie dementia and failing mobility. She brought love and smiles to many, especially small hands at bus stops on our daily walks. Our hearts ache but are full of love. Take care of all living things while you can. @geocollaborate.bsky.social

Great topic! @geocollaborate.bsky.social and I have a multiple choice question about the cone (based on section in recent book) for public talks and I'd say at least 50 to 75% get it wrong! Hope you get some takers!

The heat is on in subsurface equatorial waters, suggesting a strong El Nino on the way. Could devastate Galapagos wildlife (land and ocean). El Nino's shut down upwelling, reduce food availability for marine iguanas, sea lion pups, birds, penguins and more. Corals may also take a hit. 🧪

Tsunamis and Space Weather? Research shows both don't travel as simple waves like from a pebble dropped in a pond. Energy directed in tsunamis by bathymetry, CMEs (Coronal Mass Ejections) get twisted and directed based on new NASA PUNCH satellites. 🧪🌞

Love to say Happy Earth Day, but really? If the planet could talk, I think it would be saying OMG, WTF. We know how to improve conditions on the planet: reduce emissions, pollution, overfishing, conserve more, protect and restore natural habitats, etc. There's still hope and time. 🧪🌎

As an author & avid reader, always love to share a good read. If you like adventure, suspense, & writers who can integrate history, science, & real locations into the story, highly recommend James Rollins. Just finished this one. Hard to put down, especially the last quarter of the book. #booksky 📚🧪

Even though fascinating science unknowns remain, we understand plenty about extreme weather and Earth's other powerful forces. More than enough to prepare, respond, and take actions now to reduce risk and increase safety. It was a strong message from scientists I interviewed for Dangerous Earth. 🧪🌎

Sediment in this Greenland iceberg absorbs the sun and causes faster melting . . . . so . . . have driveway ice and sun, use the old potting soil trick to melt faster and get some traction. Science rocks here in Annapolis, MD 🧪🥶

Went on @cnn.com International this morning on Japan 7.6 M earthquake, potential tsunami risk. Always try to keep it simple, science accurate, and make important points, especially for those at risk, such as it is not just potential waves, but powerful surge and currents that are dangerous! 🧪🌊

Warmer atmosphere holds more moisture = more intense rains. Warmer ocean means more heat to fuel hurricane intensification. Media coverage of these stories needs to include CLIMATE CHANGE. It may not be you today that is impacted, but it might be you tomorrow. #1 reduce emissions!🧪🌀🌧️

Very concerned for all on #Jamaica. This is catastrophic. Everyone I know, even in sturdy structures, that have been through a major hurricane said they would never stay through one again. And they did not experience what Jamaica is about to get. Wish we could and were doing more to help!!! 🌀

TS #Melissa is becoming better organized. Official NHC forecast has storm intensifying to CAT4 hurricane, moving very slowly. May be catastrophic to #Jamaica with constant intense rainfall, very high winds. @geocollaborate.bsky.social Inform anyone in the region to pay attention and prepare. 🧪🌀🌧️🌬️

Risk in tourism must be taken seriously by companies/individuals. This posted by John Opie, Iceland, 23 July 2025. People in photo realized what was happening behind them and left. The lava closed in around 10 minutes later and patch of ground disappeared 30 minutes later as lava slowly expanded. 🌋

Rip Currents form as waves pile water up on a beach. In high spots, the water then flows to lower areas along the shore until it reaches a low point where it flows offshore as a narrow fast current. Too fast to swim against. Hurricane Erin is creating dangerous rip currents. Do not go in the water.
